What she meant was that those who are exceptionally bright and those who are quite dull can listen carefully, follow step-by-step, and get things done as requested, while the rest of us tend to 'read into' things and add or subtract from a task before executing it, which may cause problems.
But I need to know if she was quoting someone before the family says it was her original saying, and since she's passed away, we can't ask her.
Have you ever heard of this saying before? If so, where?
