Humans are social creatures. Deputies who are placed in this environment must develop new social skills in order to manage and survive the environment. To state it bluntly, a jail is not a happy place. Very few people want to be there. The inmates are in there for a reason, they broke the law. Most persons breaking the law do not have the same regard to personal property or feelings that "normal" humans do. It is sometimes difficult for the deputies to treat the inmates as normal, because the inmates take advantage of that and abuse the deputies.
However, what is the perception of the inmate? We often state that the officer/deputy can run the jail, or the inmate can run the jail. Inmates often feel put upon and abused because they are told 'no.' There are so many inmates who are used to getting what they want, and when they do not have control, they react negatively.
Over the years, I have seen so many inmates "grow up" in jail. They start coming in at 18 and they are, for lack of a better term, stupid kids. They are immature, selfish, and have no respect for authority. For a few years, they will be in and out, racking up multiple charges and convictions. Suddenly, they get some sense knocked into them and they realize that they do not want to live like this anymore. However, they now have years of probation over their heads and will still be in and out of jail for violations.
For the most part, the best advice I can give someone who is going to jail is to let them know that they do not have anything to prove. Just like on the street, there are people that they will meet whom they do not like. They must learn to deal with people. Too many inmates fall into the fake "respect" routine. Remeber, if the inmate is going to act like a child, they will be treated like one. Discipline will be meted out, whether it be a scolding or a spanking.
Good luck to your friend who is in jail.

Probably because Jail Officers are human being and as such react negatively to being the uniformed object of an Inmate's hatred of "the system".
You answered your own question, if Inmates act like garbage they will be treated as such.
I have had similar incidents that Charlie described. I've had former Inmates thank me for being fair with them while they were incarcerated. Trust me, if one Officer is a jerk it's probably because he has been one for most of his life. Other Officers don't appreciate it because it make their jobs harder in dealing with the Inmates that "Mr. Personality" got all jacked up on the previous shift.
"Human diversity training"?
For who!? inmates? Maybe then they can understand WHY the Officer is no mood for bulls*** after the same Officer is being held over for 8 hours for the umpteenth time because some slacker called in sick and there aren't enough Officers on staff to cover such an absence.

Ok, first off, where are you getting your info?
Have you been in jail before to experience this?
I worked in a jail for four years plus and have had only three inmates tell me that they hope to never see me again. They were the ones that I pressed additional charges on for attempted escape or aggravated assault on a peace officer. So, you can possibly understand why.
As for all of the others, very few have not told me thank you as they were leaving. Most wanted to shake my hand. This went for almost all ofthe other deputies I worked with, not all of them, though.
Don't lump all of us together with the bad apples. If an inmate had a bad experience with me while I worked in the jail it was mainly because he/ she caused it to be necessarry.

penal complex deputies paintings interior the penal complex so as that they manage the criminals that are locked up. it incredibly is not continually a thoroughly risk-free activity as he stated they paintings in pairs. The further bonus he does have the excellent element approximately understanding who the criminals are considering they're already in penal complex.

Most criminals are stupider then dirt others are genious. It depends on the crime too! But if it was a murderer they should be treated like garbage because they are garbage.

Is this from personal experience? If so, what did you do to have them treat you like that? Is this something you heard from a criminal? Wouldn't you think that would be a biased opinion?
