Ive always wanted a chance to shoot a big, aggressive dog(some sort of mastiff breed would be my 1st choice)
Moreover, since I live in PDX,OR but travel to W Washington, is it legal to hunt dogs? What about feral dogs?

Why is it sick to kill dogs but not cats?
Someone posted something about hunting cats anyway.

I grew up farming, We had strays that would occasional venture across our place. If they weren't bother in calves we'd leave them to go, but when we see more then one in a pack and they were chasing calves I have no qualms about shooting a dog that is harassing stock. We had pets and work dogs. They'd suffer the same fate if they started bothering the livestock.
It is legal for a farmer to protect his livestock.
To go out of your way to "hunt" a dog is asinine. Your assuming a lot. Strays often belong to someone. you are being a d*ck head if you think that it'd fun to shoot a dog just for shits and grins. I hated putting dogs down, I had no qualms about stray cats, they breed in the wild. They are an introduced species. Dogs tend to be stray pets.

I don't think it is legal although I don't know why. Why is it OK to shoot deer, birds, alligators etc but not dogs? I am not against hunting deer and birds and stuff, I just don't see why dogs are not fair game. Of course not just any dog, some sort of wild dog as in not your neighbors pet.
I just fail to see the difference between shooting a deer and shooting a dog, they are both animals, they can both be eaten.... The reason is that dogs are "cute" to most people and people don't want to shoot anything "cute".... dogs are noisy, hungry, dirty and they stink.... a deer at least lives out where it doesn't have to bother me. Honestly, I would rather have people hunting dogs than deer.

Where I'm from in Texas the Brazos Bottom of course, if there is a unruly dog about the private property you have the right to take the dogs life.
We keep forgetting that dogs are beast, wild animals yes we have domesticated a few breeds, but still until you live in the country you will never understand the unwritten law. Dog hunts do happen and not by animal control, by land owners. I am a dog owner my dog is a dog and when he passes I'll get another.

You'd certainly not get away with it in the United States.
I would agree though that it is kind of ironic and hypocritical. I lived in Brazil for a couple of years, and even in the South in areas which were overwhelmingly people of European background and probably wealthier than the average American community, people see dogs as pests, there are lots of strays.
But in America everyone loves dogs and they are "man's best friend". There are countless guys who's goal in life is to kill and mount the head of every single animal they're allowed to shoot on their wall, but to them someone who killed a dog is the scum of the Earth.
I think hunting of any kind of simply the fun of it says a lot about a person. Getting a thrill from taking the life of a creature that has no idea what is going on and no way to defend itself is supposedly what makes "tough men". It's all about compensating for more deeply rooted feelings of inadequecy.

Anyone who would shoot dogs for fun has a serious mental problem. You should check into the local nut ward and get your mind fixed. Or you could go live in China. Those people love to kill dogs. They are sick also.

i don't know that i would purposely go hunting for dogs but if i had wild dogs giving me problems on my property that would be a different story.i have never see a problem with that in this country though.in iraq we did have problems with coy dogs and were given permission to shoot them due to the large population of rabid animals.otherwise i haven't ever seen any other reason to shoot at dogs

If a dog was killing animals such as your calfs, sheep, goats, or chickens you would have a right to kill it since it was harming your animals. I think that it is very sick that you want to shoot a dog. What are you going to do with it after it's dead? Hopefully not eat it, Are you just going to leave it there to die? You sick person :>(

It is completely legal to hunt coyotes. In Idaho, there is no limit to how many you can shoot and you don't need a license. Coyotes are not protected at all and there is even a bounty on their heads in some places.

I have a hunting friend that also happens to be the county's animal control marksman. Trust me, he gets no pleasure from his job. He's thankful he's only called on to take out his rifle once every few years in this duty.
Man has domesticated the dog to work, but they are also his loyal friend and companion. Looking to hunt and kill your friends is just sick.

Nope, never hunted dogs.
Nope, it's not legal
... unless you consider a coyote a dog.. there actually is a season for that in some states.. many consider them in-season year round.
