I mean the rejection of reason, the rejection of the sequitur, of cause and effect, of two plus two, of realism for which reason is a synonym after all.

"Without reason the ground turns to mire beneath your feet. Death cults are in the end obedient to their own illogic; what they do is die"

Phlada64: If you just believe in a personal God you are a theist, if you believe in non personal God without religious dogma you might be a Deist. Often people think they don't believe in religion but their whole concept of God is derived from one of the major religions so if that's the case you are in denial.

tawaen: I don't say we should reject flights of the imagination or feelings of awe and wonder, but I think we need to know and admit what is real and what is perhaps very much hoped for but still cannot be called real, as are all religious beliefs.

Reason and Christianity (in its pure form) don't mix. That's why the Catholic Church imprisoned Galileo for stating that the earth travels around the sun. Clearly the sun travels around the earth, they said! Christianity asks that you have faith, whereas reason asks that you examine the world around you, and to be open to all possibilities. Christianity does not benefit from questions. It benefits from you following its every word, and making more Christians to tithe.

My faith accepts cause and effect.
An event some 14 to 25 billion years ago occurred completely outside all religious concepts. Religion may try to explain how we got here but it's only superficial religion that attempts it. I don't need easy answers to complex questions. I believe in God but God is much larger then all this. The readers digest version of creation in Genesis was told as highly symbolic metaphor.
My God is love, and beyond all things carnal including Bibles, big bangs and evolution.

Of course it won't seem reasonable to you because you can't understand it. You have to open your heart and be willing to try to learn, or you will never be able to grasp the concept of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14 -- The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Well, Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit when we repented to Him; became saved. And that's what happened to me. So reason dictates that there was a promise made to those who trusted Him and the promise was delivered. Logically, it produces a new line of thinking concerning Biblical things. It would be illogical to deny it after it happened.
What I think you are assuming is that it's unprovable by certain standards. But I believe that your standards of proof are different than God's standard of proof, and I have the proof. You won't receive the proof unless you trust Him too, which you will not do unless He wants you in the first place.
So this Christian has the proof, and it will not be shown to you unless God wants to give it to you also.
I didn't make the rules for this, He did. So now you know!

And I can ask you a similer TYPE of question: Why do you close the living room curtains before you sexually abuse your children?
BOTH questions are stupid!
You are arrogant and presumptuous.
As a Christian, I can't even begin to give you ALL the intelligent reasons why I believe. And even if I did, you would just mock, so why even bother?
When you want to ask an honest question looking for an honest answer, I'll talk straight up with you. Until then, hold on to your silly little questions. They're just not worth it!

I'm a non-theistic Pagan. Logic and reason are very compatible with my beliefs. :D I have no quarrel with the scientific method and the determination of things therein.
I reject reason more as an optimist than as a Pagan.

As one guy says: "I don't; I choose God's Wisdom over man's foolishness."
Translation: I trust the foolishness of certain dead men over my own capacity to figure things out.
Or there's "With out God there is no reason" and all that class of remark. These people don't even know what "reason" means. Reason did NOT lead you to Christ. Religious "faith" is the diametric opposite of reason. I swear, the early Church patriarchs like Tertullian, who said "I believe it because it is absurd," were a thousand times better than the modern-day "fundies" who try to claim that their beliefs are reasonable.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just believe in God. There is no formal religion involved. I dont know what category of yours I would fall in, but, having seen most atheists posts,I have faith that you'll come up with one.

Most people of faith that I know do not equate a belief in God with disbelief in science, rather faith fills the void that science cannot address.

There are two kinds of truth- small truth and great truth. You can recognize a small truth because it's opposite is a falsehood. The opposite of a great truth is another truth.
