CJ: You mentioned Corrinthians, look in Matthew for Jesus to say the same thing. I think it pops up at least once more as well.

I don't pretend or say I know more than the guy next to me. However I was brainwashed since childhood in roman catholicism, so I know my fair share of the old/new testament, good knowledge of ancient mythology (college).
Knowing about the bible is what led to to know there's no god.

Unfortunately they sometimes do. I don't think that would be true as groups.......but there some Christians who never bother to read anything beyond their immediate Sunday School lesson. They, then repeat something they have heard, rather than what they have read.
I have personally had Christians tell me the Bible says "spare the rod, spoil the child". This quote is not in the Bible, it is from Mark Twain, who may have been paraphrasing the Bible.

Atheism and/or Christianity are not proof of knowing the Bible better or worse.
Some atheists DO, indeed, know the Bible better than many Christians.
Many Christians are shockingly ignorant of their own book. When I was an atheist, I knew the bible better than all but a handful of the Christians I met. Now I am a Wiccan, and I find few are as familiar with it as me....comes from not reading it in translation anymore.

I'm an Atheist and I don't claim to know the Bible better than Christian. I do claim that the Bible isn't worth knowing as much Christians think it is. It's just a storybook/manifesto. Nothing more.

It can't be an uncommon path to atheism--it was my first reading of the KJV, at age 9, that underlined by certainty that no gods existed, that I was, in short, an atheist. I've read it gosh knows now many times since then, with highlighter in hand; in fact, I am reading the KJV again yet as we speak. As to your view, lad, the fact of the matter is that I assume nothing in that regard: you mistake me for someone who cares what you think.

Because "some" atheists actually know the Bible better then "some" Christians. Many Christians only know certain verses and have never actually read it in its entirety while "some" atheists have read the entire Bible cover-to-cover.

Well, some do.
I'd be lying if I said that an atheist has never pulled out an obscure reference that I had never bothered to look up.
However, I would say that KNOWING is completely different from UNDERSTANDING. And Christians definitely understand the Bible better than atheists do.

I don't think it is true that certain atheists insists that all atheist know the Bible better than Christians.
Maybe there is one that you know who insists this. If so, you should ask them directly whey they do it.

Many do, that is why they reject it.
I can't tell you how many american christians I've met that know little of their own scripture, its scary.
My issue is with the Christians that insist they know the Bible better simply because they believe it. You hear the same logic from a person of any religion, so... it doesn't impress anyone.
