Assuming of course, that there is the patriarchal being sitting on his laurels in zenith of the universe. I have a problem with the "powers that be" might be purely masculine.
When was the last time a male gave birth, aside from the male seahorse.
Possibly, he's a big prankster, saying, "Look, but don't touch." Or even "taste, but don't swallow."
This should bring them all out of the woodwork.
There are 3 things that I try not to discuss: Religion, Politics & the Great Pumpkin.
But since you posed the question, in the first place; I thought it only fair that I give you my spin on the God-thing.
I don't force my religion on folks & hopefully, they in turn will do the same.

Because God IS God
He doesn't do "personal appearances" to satisfy anyone's taste for a show, an explanation, or to prove to you that HE exists ! The prime reason for THAT is -- the core idea being --- we would then not need Faith in His existence -- and Our Faith is what is being tested in this psyhical plane !! And, if you knew the Word of God -- which is evident that you don't -- you would realize that by God's own words -- mankind can not look upon Him and Live !!
You WILL see Him soon enough -- with your own eyes and through your own thoughts and with your own frail excuses melting like hot lava before His throne !!
For He IS the creator of all -- and His Word is the Law and His Law IS Just and Eternal !! As in the movie that people love to quote so much ------- The Truth ? You can't HANDLE the Truth !! ----- God ? You can't HANDLE God !!

Just a note to the "he's everywhere" crowd. The entire bible is filled with alleged examples of god making himself manifest. Even in the NT, Jesus allegedly showed his powers to the masses and told his followers to do the same.
We don't need anything selfish when it comes to god intervening. Lets see him do something simple. Rain manna from heaven on Ethiopia. He did this for decades during the Exodus.

Same place He has always been. We are the ones who move around all over the place .
I agree that you can't depend on a warm feeling, It's risky business to depend on feelings concerning most aspects of our lives.
Perhaps you are trying too hard. Just relax and listen -let it happen . His voice can be really soft sometimes.

thats acctually a good question, and thats why Im an Asatruar. Our gods do pop up and say Hi. Im always seeing Odins ravens when i am feeling lonely. I see them in the actions of others. when someone stands up for someone else, i see them. Etc.
My conclusion about God, is thatsince we are supposed to be his children.... he is giving us space. Like how teenagers need there space. he's decided that we are big enough to take care of ourselves now.

God is there in all places, at all times, and in a multitude of forms. If the question is, "where can one feel God" the answer is "wherever you want to". I am most aware of God in the forest. I know my husband feels Him when fishing in some quiet backwater. For my mother it is when singing in her church's choir, etc. God says "Hi" all the time...you just have to listen.

Well if you believe in God and attend church and read the scripture then you will know the joys of feeling God. I have been a christian for many years and have a strong belief in God and I believe that I have felt him. You could too if you would open your heart.

I'm sure the same question was asked in the years of silence between when the Old and New Testaments were written.

I dont think human kind could handle it honestly. Its like asking why not lock your kids or girlfiend or anyone in a room so that they wont do anything bad. You probably could but you wanna see what they'll do on thier own right?

Last time he came down for a visit, the humans grabbed him and nailed him to a cross. If that happened to you when you went to visit somewhere, how soon do you think you would go visit there again?
