I hate my job. As a client services representative, I talk to people all day who are getting money from the payout of a life insurance policy. They are upset about the death of a loved one, greedy for the money and rude. They call me every name in the book with no censorship at all. I am paid $12.26 per hour and constantly find myself loaded with additional work. I really hate this job and want to find something different. I am even considering taking a teaching job for $8 per hour at my son’s after school program just to get away from these crazy people. What would you do?

If you hate your job, find another one... but LOL! You describe the reasons you hate your current job, and then you say you want to have even more of the same for less money!!!! Teaching at an after school program, and you have no patience, understanding, tolerance or ability to control the course of a conversation, nor do you have the ability to fix problems and help people get things done, all of which you describe as the causes of your current misery - and you want to take all of that and try to do an after-school program???

No. You're not thinking correctly. You do need a different job, but for pete's sake, be realistic about your skills, attributes, and needs. You would HATE the after-school job even more than your current job.

Seriously, think more carefully -- maybe you need some guided thinking with a job counselor or something.

So, yes, find a new job, but NO -- NOT the after-school program.

Can you survive on $8 an hour?

Will dealing with spoiled brats be any better?

Life is too short to work a job you hate, having said that, jobs are becoming pretty hard to find.

Whenever faced with such a problem in my life I Ben Franklin it. Take 2 sheets of paper and draw lines down the middle. Label one piece of paper, Current Job and other Potential Job, then write Pro on one side and Con on the other. Lock yourself into a quiet room and give yourself 5 minutes. Write down every single thing that comes to mind about both, even if you think it not important or silly. Some things may end up being both pro & con. Then look at the papers, your answer may become clear.

Good luck

I just quit a job I hated just to get out. I am getting paid less but Iam so much happier.

I made a choice, was my time and health more important then the money. I have no regrets. The only advice I can give you is just do a little soul searching, you already know if you should leave or not.

I've always been told to let it go, because it's just a job. Don't take anything personal and it's not worth getting angry over disrespectful people. I wouldn't leave until I get a higher paying job or something that pays about the same. It's not worth losing extra income over a job unless it's the manager that you work under is a jerk.

Have you volunteered at your son's after school program to see if you like the job that you are considering. Your choice stress or money. You could look for another job.

Personally I would change to the after school, and keep looking for another job that pays more or just enjoy the job because I would get to be with my son. Until he changed schools then look for another.

Start looking for a new job today. Don't work at a job you hate coming to work in for, no job is worth that. Look for something you like that will pay you better though. When you do find something, give at least a week of notice, don't burn any bridges behind you. Good luck!

I would simply not tolerate the attitude; the moment someone goes over the line (swearing, cursing, threats etc.) you merely say that you are not going to accept that kind of behaviour and show them the way out. They can either apologize and you can continue or they can make another appointment when they are ready to be civil.

If you look at today's paper you would see that the largest recorded group of teachers are not returning to work this year. Not because of lack of recruiting but retention and job satisfaction is #1 listed reason.

I have a suggestion for you if I could email...

I can see why you hate your job. Not everyone can listen to complaints all day, every day. I'd find another job but it's not wise to quit before finding another position. Good luck!
