I went to a concert last night and I was standing up dancing and singing along and the people behind me started giving me a hard time for standing. Over half the audience was standing. She told me to sit down and I said no. Her boyfriend told me if I didn't sit down he would sit me down. I told him if he touched me I would have him arrested. I went and got security and they let them stay there but told them not to talk to me or touch me. They were fine the rest of the concert. I think it was soo rude of them. Most people stand up and dance at concerts. It was Keith Urban, not the orchastra. Also do you think security should have kicked them out for threating me?

They should expect people standing up and dancing. If they don't like it, they shouldn't attend such concerts.

It depends on the type of concert. We go to rock concerts where absolutely no one sits and if you're not jumping up and down you are totally out of place. We saw Linkin Park last week and I don't think a single one of the over 16,000 in that venue were sitting down.
If everyone around you is seated then I suppose it would be a bit rude. The singer is a country singer, right? So I suppose that can be a bit of a mixed crowd.
As long as he didn't do anything else once security gave him a warning, then I think security did the right thing.

Well, actually, depending on where you were sitting and whether other people were standing up and dancing, you would be declared the rude party.
When Montgomery Gentry came to my hometown, me and my boyfriend were sitting in the second level of seats where no one was really standing up or dancing. People who had floor seats were, of course, because EVERYONE on the floor was doing it. However, people who have seats that are farther away from the stage tend to stay seated and simply sing along. One man a couple of rows ahead of us did stand up to dance and I thought it was pretty rude of him. Mainly because no one else was doing it, and the little girl (maybe 4 years old) sitting behind him couldn't see.
If you were in a section where you were the only person doing this, I would consider you rude and not blame the couple for saying something because, honestly, if I had been them I would've went to security before you did. The reason security probably didn't kick them out is because they understood the couple's side.
It's great to have fun at concerts, just be considerate of other people.

The recent concerts I hagve been to have separate areas - those with seats, and most in those are fine sitting and enjoying the show. Other areas have little or no seating where folks can dance their little hearts out.

Tonight I'm going to a concert, and I have seats, I certainly would not want anyone standing/dancing/blocking my view there.

Well, it really depends on what type of concert you are attending. For example, I attended a Taylor Hicks concert and everyone was seated, no one was supposed to be standing. In fact, there was a man about five rows in front of me that had decided to stand up, and was booed at from the audience.

When I went to see The Police everyone was standing and dancing. What's the difference between Taylor Hicks and The Police? Well, Taylor Hicks is more like a country pop and The Police are punk rock.

You said it was a Keith Urban concert, and excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think he is a country singer, right?

If he is, then there is your answer, country concerts are more calm and rock concerts are more wild, only injured people sit down at rock concerts.

Different types of concerts, different types of rules to be followed.
Hope this helps,
Amanda.

It was rude of you to block their view. That is no excuse for their rudeness, though. If someone asks you politely, you should sit down. They did not pay to see the person in front of them dancing.

I've only been to one concert where the audience stood the whole time (no dancing though). My fiance and I had to look to the sides of the people in front of us to see. I felt very badly for a woman a few rows up from us. She was obviously towards the end of her pregnancy and had to keep sitting down.

Also, I am on my feet all day working. If I wanted to stand, I would have gotten standing room tickets.

I t`ikkt depends on your reason for standing. If it was because your view was obstructed by all the people in front of you standing...then it's acceptable, because you need to see the show and have fun too. But if no one in your section was standing and you could see just fine seated, it would be rude to block other's view.

I do see the point of it being a lively rock/country concert as opposed to the opera or something. Do you think rock/country performers are going to feel energized by a dead silent audience, who are all sitting silently in their seats with their hands folded???? NO, they are going to consider that show a BOMB, and that city a Bore and never want to return! People need to lighten up!

As far as them being kicked out....they deserved a warning in my opinion and it sounds like they dropped it afterwards.

No I don't and I think that it is extremely rude to do so. The people behind you paid for their tickets and seats and they should not be forced to stand because you don't want to sit. It is a concert, not a dance.

Well to be honest it's rude to stand and obstruct someone's view. The point of seats is to sit. I think you should only stand if you are on the floor where it's all standing or if everyone around you is standing so nobody is bieng blocked. In my opinion, you should have sat down. These people paid for tickets to *sit* and watch a concert, and they probably didn't see half of it becuse of you. I probably would have hit you too :)

I think security should have told you to sit.

That happened to me once at a Shania Twain concert. Out of the entire arena, mine was the only section NOT standing, and I'm sorry, I didn't pay that kind of money just to sit and listen. I can do that in the car. So I did what I wanted and tried to be as nice as possible when I told them I wouldn't sit down. Until they got nasty with my sister and I had to step in and tell them where to shove it!
