I've heard it is worse for adults to get braces. I got the clear ones on both the top and bottom yesterday. I find it's impossible to eat anything but Jell-O. My molars hurt so bad. My teeth are VERY crooked though, could that be why I'm in so much pain? I don't have any sores (yet).

I got braces at age 31. The spacers were the worse part for me because I wasn't allowed to floss for two weeks. The tightness from braces usually takes about 1 month to get used too. However, you go through new discomfort everytime the orthodonists makes a new adjustment (chains, wires, rebonding) during your monthly visits. That usually takes about a week and a half to adjust to. But the discomfort from the new adjustments is no where near as bad as when you first got them installed. So hang in there. It gets a little better.

After 6 weeks you can usually start to eat some table food. Everytime you go through a readjustment you're back to eating very gingerly because you're teeth are a little sensitive again. But you won't be restricted to jello.

When I had braces any OTC pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil always did the trick. When I was in a lot of pain cold foods usually numbed the pain.
If the first 2 fail then try some ambesol or Oragel

i know what you are going through. yea it hurts for like about couple of weeks. i have had my tops and bottoms except for the frist bottom 4, for a year. i jusst got my bottom 4 on july 9. and they hurt. the reason why you are in pain is bc of something that your mouth is not used to. do this at home
take a pain relever
rinse mouth out with warm salt water
repeat every when you want it.
i hope you feel better,
the pain will go away. GOOD LUCK

I have braces at the moment, and for the first two weeks thyey hurt like H-E-two popsicles. But your teeth are getting straighter when they hurt. Just take some tylenol and after a while it will get back to normal..

I'm 32 and just got mine off, it hurt like he!! for about 2 weeks to the point where that's all I could think about and then usually only when they were shifting or after they were adjusted again. Pudding and soups were all I could do. I literally lost weight, which wasn't bad. lol

it will hurt REALLY bad the first few days, and after every visit, when he tightens them. but u will get used to it after a few days....u eventually forget it's even there...i would say the pain will be there for about a week or so, because u just got them on. after every tightening, the pain will stay for about 2-3 days max.

Are they regular braces or those visaligns or whatever you call them? I know my mouth was always sore for a couple days everytime they were tightened. You can try mashed potatoes n yogurt n baby food if you're really desperate.

By "clear" braces, do you mean those plastice ones that slip in... or actual metal braces glued onto your teeth?

If you don't specify, I might not be able to answer your question. :)
