They may be bigger but I don't think they have much more meat because the seed is bigger. Also, how do you tell if they are ripe?

Do you mean the ones that are supposed to be lower in fat or something like that? If so, they do have more meat in them but they taste aaaawful! They taste very unnatural and just ew im grossing out just thinking about it.

I think you are probably used to buying the Haas variety of avocado. It has a dark dimply skin and is comparitively smaller in size. I believe the ones you are talking about are a California variety that have a smoother lighter skin. Gently press around the stem area to tell if they're ripe. It should give slightly but not feel mushy.

they are so good.. I am from Puerto Rico and this are the kind of avocados we grow over in the Caribbean & Latin America, in the US people are just used to the California type of avocados, small and very dark skin. ON my side I love that as of a couple of years back 'til now I can get the big avocados in the market.

by feeling them. you don't want them to be too hard and too soft... you want them firm.... everytime you go to the store don't just get avocatos but choose them
