I think you should tell him the truth
if you really love him/like him
you wouldnt lie to him
so just tell him that it isn't working out
The truth may hurt but at least he wont find out a week later or s that you lied to him

i just went through this!
tell him how you feel, he should understand unless he's immature, and if he is, you shouldn't be with him anyways.
either way, you need to be honest.
