Instead of listening to judgement being passed down from people who can't except the facts, let me tell you how it really was Guru bro.
Muhammad Ali did in fact want a real fight with Marciano, said it would be a great fight for the people because they were both fighters who were on delays and inactivity. Marciano was just as embarrassed as Ali was to do the fake computer fight, but as it was they both were in need of some good easy made money!!
Rocky respected Ali as much as Ali respected Rocky they really had a fair amount of time to talk about each other and their accomplishments. Really got to know one another that much better! Ali had even mentioned the fact that Marciano fought a 42 going on 43 year old Archie Moore, told Marciano Moore is still fighting and laughed. You can say it kind of distorted Marciano just a bit, but nothing to dramatic.
The fact remains that Muhammad Ali did want a real fight and knew it would have been a much bigger pay day for the two because Ali knew Marciano's stature to the public at the time. Although Marciano may have seemed game for it, he admired how great Ali was in the ring, fighting like none of the boxers Marciano has ever faced. The fact that Ali was a young talented boxer really scared Marciano some what! You can also say that Rocky wasn't about to put himself into a position to ruin his view to the public as an undefeated champ who is retired, he played it smart and took the best decision for him to lead. He felt he was too old and just too over boxing to take any real fight into consideration. Rocky even stated that he thought Ali was good boxer on the rise.
You have to think about how Rocky was thinking on this whole situation. He literally was embarrassed to do that fake computer fight because of his belief in pride. Rocky was in financial stability and only needed the extra cash for some separate funding.
Basically a real fight with Ali would have only proven that Marciano can't fight beyond when he knows he has to quit!!! He is no Archie Moore nor is he an Ezzard Charles. He was a better fighter than them but only in his time, not theirs. Marciano had a very short career for a heavyweight at the time and the ones who had them even shorter were just plain bums!!! I think it's safe to say that the knockdown Marciano suffered against a very old Archie Moore really woke him up to a decision he was going to have to make. He knew staying in the game too long means fighters like Patterson Liston and Ali wanting what he's got (the title).
Fact is Ali would have made that computer fight look ridiculous and embarrassing to all the people in the world who bought into that ****. Can you imagine who bad Ali wanted that real fight?? It's bad enough that he had to revert to Islam just to prove that the white man doesn't control him now he involves himself into an obvious "white mans" project??? When you hear about Muhammad Ali wanting a rematch best believe that you are hearing the RIGHT ****!!!!
P.s.
You though Sonny Liston took a beating from a young Cassius Clay lol..........****!!!
Come on bro, you know already that Ali wanted one but once again the white man prevailed. Hmmm makes you wonder why they gave Mike Spinks two victories over Larry Holmes when Larry clearly won both??? Can you say 50 - 0 breaks Marciano's record??? Think about it bro, later and thanks for this question!

If you read what some of the people have written to this answer it really makes you wonder. I will agree that Marciano didn't have the greatest boxing skill but his punching power obviously more than made up for that. His training and work ethic more than made up for limited boxing skills. His tenacity and continual punching were above and beyond what most heavyweights are capable of.
Marciano worked hard for his success and he retired because he had enough. Whether it was a family decision or another personal reason I can tell you for sure he wasn't afraid of the fighters who came after him.
A few weeks ago a poster brought up the example of Liston challenging Marciano to a fight at ringside of an ongoing bout and Marciano said let's go. Liston didn't take him up on it. Marciano and Suzie Q are reason on their own not to be intimidated by other upcoming boxers.
Marciano was way past his prime when a challenge from Ali would have come around.

You can say he was, I mean they did have mutual conversations amongst one another! I think Rocky realized what was best for him after watching the display Clay put on Liston.
Figure it from there!!!
Tell me would this be a perfect example of how good Marciano really was?
Rocky fights Archie Moore who is 42 years of age at the time knocking down Marciano who was 32 at the time. Do you honestly think getting knocked down by an old man is appreciated?? Try switching the roles around the age. Marciano 42 and Moore at 32? Now who would win???
Fact is Marciano was barely able to take out an old time great in Archie Moore and Joe Louis. He suffers a flash knockdown and multiple cuts during the Archie Moore fight, how do you think Marciano would have fared if he fought half as long as Archie Moore did??? Marciano wasn't that great if you ask me. Ali beat the **** out of fighters who were on top of their level in what has to be the best era of boxing in the 70's. I think Marciano had more than enough reasons not to take a fight with Ali and getting knockout out cold was one of them!

Marciano died in 1969 - don't know what "1970 fake fight" clown #1 is talking about.
Facts are - Marciano was 49-0.
Ali lost 5 fights, unless you count the *** kicking Norton gave him - lets say honestly 6.
The support and claim that Ali is the greatest ever is from racist and desperate lemens who needed to believe that flash, a mouth and a race baiter really means "the best'
Ali was also a coward, hence his conversion from Cassius to Mohammed.
Ali is and was nothing more than a token "winner" in the minds of many people who needed to create a black "winner". He was the scapegoat for the persistant and wrong assesment of "blacks dying in Vietnam and wars for the white man, while calling frazier an "ape", foreman a "thug" and every other devisive bs to get headlines.
If you think the greatest ever can get knocked down by a 42 year old journeyman named Wepner - I have a bridge to sell you.
I find it hysterical the loudmouth, race baiting coward can barely walk and talk... I guess what goes around really does come around.
Bru - Marciano beat Jersy Joe twice - the first in his prime, the second towards the end...

No. By the time Ali came along in 1960, Marciano was 37 and probably weighed around 240 Ibs. The reason for this weight increase was that he had done everything he wanted to do in boxing, and had no desire, and no need, to keep slogging his guts out in the gym. Rocky was a smart guy - he got out when he could, and had lots of money, so wouldn't have been tempted to come back in 1963 or 1964 to fight Ali. The only time after his retiremant that Marciano serously trained and got himself fit was for the 1967 computer fight with Ali.

I'm going to go by Ali's fight against Chuvalo the first time He took a punch much better than Rocky and Ali wailed on him all night. I say Ali Stops Marciano some where near the 20th round. He might stop him on cuts earlier than that, especially with smaller gloves. The rock just wouldn't be able to catch him long enough to slow him down.

Marciano was born in 1924, Ali was born in 1942. Why didn't they fight? You do the math.
There was indeed a filmed pseudo fight between the two that was shown in theatres known as "The Superfight." The computer supposedly analyzed what would have happened in a real fight, and the two essentially did an reenactment in the ring. It didn't satisfy anyone or prove anything. I believe that Marciano had already passed away before it was shown.

Some fighters are smart enough to know that when its over, its over.
He also didn't like the fact that his promoter had him signed up for another three years with fights already lined up and said that without him he would be nothing. According to the Rocky he had something to do with it bit being Champion. He also thought that Rocky came to him with a hole in his pocket and owed him for making him the champ.
He injured his back when he tried to lift his daughter and that was one of the main instigators in him retiring to spend time with his wife and kids.
It was the Champs birthday on September the first. God Bless Rock you were a great Champion. One of the nice guys. Whether he would have fought Ali and how it would have gone down is anynes guess. It is only something we can ponder about.
If the Rock could have fought Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott and Archie Moore in their primes he would have but it didn't pan out that way.

No......but the truth is that during the filming of what you refer as " some ridiculous computer " fight in 1970...an older Rocky did spar for 70 rounds with a younger Ali over the course of a number of days. Rocky & Ali were instructed to " pull " their punches to the head ; but were advised that it was okay to bang each other to the body and arms. After a couple of days in the ring together....Ali went to the film's producer & complained that he was experiencing so much pain on his arms from Rockys shots that he ( Ali ) was having trouble punching. As a result Ali threatened to quit the " fight " unless he received additional money. Ali never received more money but he did not quit the " fight "

Let me tell you this pal, Marciano was way past his prime when Ali came along. Who would want see some you kid beat an old man who used his face for a shield his entire career, to prove what ? He couldn't be knocked out, the man was one of the sadest boxer;s I ever saw, the man was stricly bent on brawling, that's it.
I give bundles of credit for retiring when he did, because he knew he wouldn't las to long against a fighter who knew how to do the( Buster Douglass) on him. Face it he fought know one with a decent jab, just a bunch of punch drunk has been's. I see all those old black and white flim's and see him charge in to fighter's face frist just mad me think the man was crazy. He had no boxing skill's what so ever, in those days that was considered boxung I guess. He was smart enough to know to keep that little he better keep his tall out the ring with Ali . What I understand , the man ended up hocking the belt anyway so he could pay rent. It just another sad story of another boxer being mismanaged and dying broke and pennieless.
Marciano got out the fight game at the right time because like I said earlier, he know time would come when he would face a real fighter instead of hand picked bums. I think Marciano would have gotten his so called spotless record tore to pieces if hehad the chance to fight Liston or Clay.
You saw what happen's when good boxer's make stupid decisions like Roy Jones did. he came out of retirment to prove what? he ended up leaveing a lasting memeory eched in everyone's mind forever of him trying to scrape himself off the mat !
