Imagine for a moment......
You are in a room alone with a guy. This guy seems nice. You talk with him about everything......But then suddenly, be begins talking about his invisible friend George. He really seems to know this friend of his.He even talks to him right in front of you.You keep looking around trying to find his friend George. You ask him, "where is your friend George? Are you on the phone with him?" and he says, "No!He is right here in this room with me.He is trying to talk to you right now. Can't you hear him?"You say you can't hear him and that he isn't there. But this guy becomes persistent that George is there. He threatens you that if you don't stop saying that George isn't there then he is going to fight you.
Be afraid of George's friend........You know..... That guy who thinks there is someone named George in the room.....

I think that when people mix faith with fear and bigotry they can easily become absolutist. Virtual walls go up to shield us from outside opinions, and faith can sour into defensive behaviors. Yes, stubborn fundamentalism can be frightening, but it's not the fault of the faith, it's just another form of bigotry by people who cling to the trappings of religion without genuine understanding. When I am "put off" by aggressive fundamentalism I try very hard to remember to have compassion, and forgive them for they Know not what they do.

It is a normal reaction to fear what is alien to you.
I am scared of them too. I fear that they will come to my door and by some twist of fate get invited in and waste hours of my time futilely trying to get me to agree that their faith should be my faith.
Fear of Boredom.
Does that ring any bells?

because they have a history of violence against anyone not like them.
the good news is that the vast majority of them today are decent, peaceful people. The more outspoken ones are the ones to be careful of.

maybe because so many of them (not all) try to force their will on you and get you to believe what they do. when often times their opinion is not actually what God wants. nobody likes to have any belief forced upon them. no matter what it is. and a lot of them preach of fear and suffering. if we are God's children then shouldn't we be more focused on love and building each other up and helping each other to overcome our weaknesses. not tearing down.

I dont know. My first thought would be that Christians threaten your belief that there is no God. I for one, will never try to prove there is a God to you. He can do that all by Himself.

Because they have so much political clout in this country and they're trying to push their illogical and superstitious dogma onto everyone? That's why I'm afraid of them.
