use Old Bay seafood seasoning. Add it to your water....bring to a boil and cook for only like 3 minutes. If you overcook the shrimp the shell will stick and they wont taste as good! What type of crab legs? Most are already pre cooked so all you need to do is boil them for a few to heat them up. Most people prefer cocktail sauce for dipping. You can make that with ketchup and horseradish!

Do not boil crab. It kills any flavor. Steam the crab for best results. Way better than boiling. Will take less than 10 minutes. All you need after that is a little butter and lemon. Shrimp cook really fast. Bring to room temp first. Grill on high heat for 2-3 minutes, depending on how thick they are, and flip over, and grill another 2 minutes. Serve and peel. Shrimp start changing colors from their dull gray to bright colors quickly. Additionally, shrimp is best not fully cooked. The residual heat will If you want something for them before, melt some butter and garlic to toss before throwing on the grill. Or some sesame oil and ginger and a little dried chili.

Crab legs are typically already cooked - they do that at dockside ( see " Deadliest Catch " when it resumes on Discovery channel ) and frozen before you get them at the market. They only need to be heated.
Cook the shrimp in beer ! They take only 2 min. or so. I put red pepper flakes in the beer and a little salt. You can do this shelled or peeled. If peeled, leave the little tails on - easier to pick up and dip. When you take them out, use a slotted spoon to drain 'em, then dump in the crab legs for less than a minute to heat up.
Melt butter for dipping, and have a cocktail sauce ( just combine ketchup and horseradish to taste ) as well - great fun and obligingly messy - plenty of napkins !
Rice and veggies make excellent side dishes.
Oh, you'll need some implement to crack the crab legs. Little crab forks also come in handy.
Happy cooking !

you just want to steam the crab legs until they are warm. They should be already cooked. you can serve them with some clarified butter and lemon wedges.

As for the Shrimp, you can saute them in a little butter with some garlic and pepper. OR add a bit of olive oil garlic and pepper and skewer them and put on the grill. Squeeze a little bit of lemon or lime at the end just before service and you should have a great dinner.

Crab legs are usually already cooked when you buy them, better check, I just heat in the microwave for a few minutes on med. and shrimp can be also purchased cooked, or you can boil them with some Old Bay seasoning and / or a bay leaf and pepper corns. Just a few minutes until bright pink.

I am a seafood fanatic and cook these meals at least once a week. As for as shrimp goes, there are many ways to cook and eat. Crab is a little simpler. I personally don't like Old Bay Seasoning, so I use alot of garlic and fresh herbs melted in butter instead.

Shrimp

Steam in shell: Add 1/2 pot of water to medium sized pot and place steamer (or I used metal strainer) above with lid or plate to catch steam. This usualy takes about 10 minutes. Once done you can brush garlic butter over peeled shrimp.

Stove-top (this is how I start shrimp alfredo): de-shell and de-vein. Add about 2 tbs. of butter and about 2 tbs. of fresh garlic to pan, let melt. Add shrimp and cook for about 5 minutes, rotating frequently.

Deep-Fry: take de-shelled and de-veined shrimp and dip in beaten eggs. Shake shrimp in a ziplock bag with italian bread crumbs. Place in deep fryer for abour 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Grilled: placed de-shelled and de-veined shrimp on damp, wooden skewers. Marinate in lemon/lime juice. Grill for about 10 minutes, flipping half-way in between.

Crab

Steam or Boil: Place crab in large pot of rolling-boiling water. Let cook for about 10 minutes or until outer shell is warm. I let crab stand in the hot water until I a ready to eat. Ex: I eat about 2 legs at a time and they get cold fast, so I take them out of the hot water 2 at a time until they are gone. Dip in melted butter. I usually serve with rice and a green salad.

Good luck & Enjoy

My mother always boiled shrimp in shell with a hearty dose of pickling spice. I saute mine for a few minutes just until they turn pink.

As for crab legs, they're always cooked when I get them, so we just steam them for about 10 minutes. No seasoning, they're good as they are.

i would just boil them till they are red. after ward you can use cocktail sauce, but if you want to tryi something different you can get a small bowl and add salt, grind black pepper in a 1:1 ratio. then add fresh lime juice till the product is slightly submerged in the lime juice. this will create an easy asian approach to eating seafood. works well with most seafood.

dont waste time and energy waiting for water to boil....put your shellfish in a zip top bag..add butter and old bay..put the bag in a large safe bowl..poke 3 or 4 holes for steam to escape...nuke on high for 2 minutes..check for doneness...nuke again until red and done...we do all our shell fish in the restaurant this way now...barely keeps up with the orders. no flavors lost to steam or water...the meat stays perfectly juicy too..bon appetit!
