it is a small msdos batch file that is automatically executed during the loading of MSDOS and MS Windows based machines (although possibly not windows) in newer versions it has little responsibility and other files load most of the drivers (.ini files).

It's also AUTOEXEC.BAT not BATH, when it was made we were still using an 8char dot 3 char naming system.

I think you mean autoexec batch.

It's a file that automatically executes a batch (meaningful group) of commands. Way back when, we used to make an autoexec.bat file to start Windows up from DOS. Now there is no DOS.

AUTOEXEC.BAT is the name of a system file found originally on the MS-DOS operating system. It is a plain-text batch file that is located in the root directory of the boot device. The name of the file is a portmanteau of the words "automatic" and "execution", which describes its function in automatically executing commands on system startup; the portmanteau was coined in response to the 8.3 filename limitations of the FAT file system family.

maybe you mean "autoexec.bat" that is the command batch file when you are running DOS programs. you can configure it using text editor..
during the system boot in DOS, exe or executable program writren in autoexec.bat will run automatically..
windows program doesnt use this command anymore, it is now similar to autoruns.inf usually found int autoplay cd...
