Without making any previous assumptions, do you think that it is possible that god is imaginary and that religion is a waste of time (OPEN to the possiblity, not necessarily what you belive now). I'm not trying to attack, just curious to see what you think.

And BTW, I am open to the possiblity that there is a god, but only in light of some imperical evidence. So don't try to flip this around on me.

Kathy: Open to the fact?? If it were a fact I wouldn't be an atheist. There isn't even any evidence, let alone it being a fact.

Apathy: the more educated you are, the more likely you are to become an atheist. Not the other way around.

That question is like me asking you if you are open to the possibility that your dad doesn't exist. We've had a personal encounter with God, so there isn't any doubt. We don't believe just in hope that He exists. He is real and He interacts with me on a daily basis.

Your question is coming from an angle that assumes that we just believe in an imaginary friend that we've never seen and have no evidence of. That is a false assumption. Blind faith is not an issue here.

Religion is a waste of time because it is just traditions of men. That is not what real christianity is about. Christianity is supposed to be about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If there was no God how do you account for all the millions of healings and miracles that have taken place over the past 2000 years. Evolution has proved to be false and the bible is being proved to be true. The bible says the earth is round in the book of Isaiah. Christopher Columbus testified that he did not trust in mathematics, maps,or intelligence to get to the new world but that he trusted the holy scriptures in the book of Isaiah. In the book of Jonah it says there are mountains on the ocean floor. Science has proved that out. In fact nothing in the bible has been disproved. All opposition to it's teachings are based on lies. Most of the original founders of our country were not religionists but confessed a sound belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. A Supreme Court decision over a hundred years ago ruled unaimously that we are a christian nation. Only since about 1947 did that begin to change because of a rise in liberal attitudes and politics. But let me ask you this. If you see a building you know that there was an architect, right? If you see a painting, you know there was a painter, right? If you see an airplane, you know there was a designer, right? So when you look around at the world and see all the sophisticated life, and at the universe and see it's vast magnitude, you know there was a creator. But I invite you to read the bible for yourself. It is self teaching. No one has to explain it to you. The Holy Spirit will reveal anything you need to know.

If you are asking me if I understand why some people might think that God does not exist, I would say yes. Personally, based on both logical and experiential encounters, I can't see how God cannot exist.

But if I were to speak for those who doubt the existence of God, I would be basing my doubt on minimal information I am able to comprehend (far less than 1% of what is to know in this universe). Even within that minimal state there are plenty of arguments for God and just as many if not more believe in the existence of God than not. To continue to reject God I would have to reject the possibility that the remaining 99% could reveal something to us that we do not fully comprehend with the 1%.

Mathmatically the statistics stake against the antheists.

the existence of God cannot be proven or disproved. The Bible even says that we must accept by faith the fact that God exists, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). If God so desired, He could simply appear and prove to the whole world that He exists. But if He did that, there would be no need for faith. "Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed'” (John 20:29).

That does not mean, however, that there is not evidence of God’s existence. The Bible declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4). Looking at the stars, understanding the vastness of the universe, observing the wonders of nature, seeing the beauty of a sunset – all of these things point to a Creator God. If these were not enough, there is also evidence of God in our own hearts. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us, “…He has also set eternity in the hearts of men…” There is something deep down in our beings that recognizes that there is something beyond this life and someone beyond this world. We can deny this knowledge intellectually, but God’s presence in us and through us is still there. Despite all of this, the Bible warns us that some will still deny God’s existence, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 14:1). Since over 98% of people throughout history, in all cultures, in all civilizations, on all continents believe in the existence of some kind of God – there must be something (or someone) causing this belief

there are logical arguments. First, there is the ontological argument. The most popular form of the ontological argument basically uses the concept of God to prove God’s existence. It begins with the definition of God as “that than which no greater can be conceived.” It is then argued that to exist is greater than to not exist, and therefore the greatest conceivable being must exist. If God did not exist then God would not be the greatest conceivable being - but that would contradict God's very definition. A second is the teleological argument. The teleological argument is that since the universe displays such an amazing design, there must have been a Divine designer. For example, if earth were even a few hundred miles closer or further away from the sun, it would not be capable of supporting much of the life it currently does. If the elements in our atmosphere were even a few percentage points different, every living thing on earth would die. The odds of a single protein molecule forming by chance is 1 in 10243 (that is a 10 followed by 243 0’s). A single cell is comprised of millions of protein molecules.

A third logical argument for God’s existence is called the cosmological argument. Every effect must have a cause. This universe and everything in it is an effect. There must be something that caused everything to come into existence. Ultimately, there must be something “un-caused” in order to cause everything else to come into existence. That “un-caused” something is God. A fourth argument is known as the moral argument. Every culture throughout history has had some form of law. Everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Murder, lying, stealing, and immorality are almost universally rejected. Where did this sense of right and wrong come from if not from a holy God?

Despite all of this, the Bible tells us that people will reject the clear and undeniable knowledge of God and instead believe a lie. Romans 1:25 declares, “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator - who is forever praised. Amen.” The Bible also proclaims that people are without excuse for not believing in God, “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

People claim to not believe in God because it is “not scientific” or “because there is no proof.” The true reason is that once people admit that there is a God, they also must realize that they are responsible to God and in need of forgiveness from God (Romans 3:23; 6:23). If God exists, then we are accountable for our actions to Him. If God does not exist, then we can do whatever we want without having to worry about God judging us. I believe that is why evolution is so strongly clung to by many in our society - to give people an alternative to believing in a Creator God. God exists and ultimately everyone knows that He exists. The very fact that some attempt so aggressively to disprove His existence is in fact an argument for His existence.

This is my theory. Yes, I consider myself to be a christian; no, I do not go to church. These are my beliefs and my opinions, do not judge me for what I say. With that being said....don't you think that it is easier to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for our sins. Don't you think that is so much nicer to have faith in Him and His glory, than to have faith in nothing at all. I know that even though I have no proof that there is a "God" I believe he exists. Not because I have proof or I know for sure, but, because I have faith. Because I choose to believe there is a God and that he does want us to have the best and that when we die I am going to be greeted by everyone I ever knew and that we are all going to celebrate and God and Jesus and everyone will be there and thats when I will get my evidence. I know in my heart it is real and that is what makes it real to me. It's all about what you believe.

Now, I don't go to church because of the fact I don't believe in "organized religion". I think that is what you call a cult. Not that I think church people are bad or that I have anything against them; however, the definition of a cult is "A system or community of religious worship and ritual." They want you to join there religion (baptist, pentecostal, catholic, protestant, etc., etc.) and come to there church, and follow there rules and believe in what they believe and.....to me that is a cult. I sit at home and I read my bible and I talk to my "religious" friends and we discuss what we believe and I pray and I believe and in my heart that is what God wants from me. He don't care if I go to church every Sunday. He don't mind that I don't sit there and wish I wasn't there or that I feel uncomfortable. I don't deny him, I don't deny Jesus, I don't deny the Bible. I have asked Christ for forgiveness and I have been forgiven and I know that I will flourish in my life and in my death. God bless you all.

I believe in God, but I am open to anything. If there was conclusive evidence that left absolutely no doubt in my mind that humans were created through other means, then my beliefs would have to change, but currently I highly doubt that.

If I ever say to assume God doesn't exist, it is for rhetorical purposes only.

If there isn't a God, which I highly doubt then I will deal with that issue at that given time.
Now turn around if fair play, Are you open to the fact that God is here now, and is holy and just?

No I'm not "open" to that possibility. What could motivate someone to be open to the idea that our existence is a result of random chance and that we have no hope of anything beyond this life? How could that belief (or even suspicion) be beneficial...what could I possibly gain from denying the possibility of God?

It is evident that you have not experienced Him otherwise you would not ask that question.

God is the great I AM. And He IS indeed.

Ask Him to show Himself to you. He will do it, but just not in the way you expect.

I used to feel the way you do, but then I called out to God, out of curiosity. Things have never been the same. It is 12 years since I called out to Him and the path has been painful at times, but now my life is really good.

That's all I'm saying....call out to Him and ask Him to show Himself to you. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

True Christians have 2 way relationships with God through the Holy Spirit, so they do have proof. With personal proof, its an easy choice.
