How can an atheist be a sin? That is a paradox. if an atheist does not beleive in god then how can they believe in sin?
Don't mistake me for knowing right from wrong, that is not what I mean. The only one's I think that would ever consider being an atheist a sin would be a religious zealot. The average person usually minds their own business and will respect the worship of another's belief or in this case non belief. i truly believe that both Religious and Non Religious sides need to talk more and use less hate. Hate does no one any good in the end.
so no atheism is a point of view just as being catholic, or being hebrew, muslim, wiccan, agnostic. They are all a choice of beleifs, not a sin. That is my opinion of it.
Only in the eyes of Those who believe in Sin would consider it a sin and so on. If you have no belief in it then how can it be?
IMO whether you are or are not is not as important to me as how you live your life. I think if you live your life doing mostly good things and deeds in the name of humanity does not mean you get a one way ticket to Christian Hell just because you chose to be a Jew or a Muslim over a Christian or even being an Atheist.
IF there is a God and is as merciful as preached I would think the merits of ones life would matter more than if he believed or not, so long as you treat the earth, animals and all things living with respect than you are no sinner even if you have no belief in god. I do not believe Buddhists monks some of the most peaceful people that live are going to go to Hell just because they are not Christian i refuse to believe that, they have a place if there is one just as any good person would.
If you cannot tell I am agnostic or more Wiccan than anything, i am not atheist nor am i mainstream either. i do respect all others beliefs though even more so when they do not respect mine. I think that is more a SIN than being an atheist, is being intolerant and ignorant to others way of life. We can all learn from each other if we just stop killing and start listening to each others cultures for a change. BUT that has not happened in thousands of years, i will be surprised if it ever does unfortunately...has anyone ever thought what if EVERYONE IS CORRECT or EVERYONE IS WRONG? It is up to you in the end to decide what you believe and no one else can tell you differently.
(Lin Li - you have probably said the most intelligent thing I have ever heard a religious person say about a non religious person, respect for them and seeing their good points and accepting their beliefs yet believing yourself that even if they do not you do and will see them again, THAT is a great attitude about it)

The very beauty of humanity is the ability to question. When a young boy grows up a minority in a christian school and gets made fun of constantly for being a different color or have parents from a different contry by the so called "moral majority," do you really think that he would want to join that group or subscribe to any dogma that would have those kind of people following it?
What religious people seem to forget is that the burden of proof lies with you. For every bible passage I hear, I could easily find a fable with the same message. The point is to live a good life. Most people know the difference.

Now thats really all going to depend on who you ask. In my personal opinion it is an idea just like Christianity that people follow to suit their own lifestyles. Now if you were to ask a Christian of course they are going to tell you its a sin and so is Budahism and Hinduism and all the other religions. I think rather than asking the question maybe some soul searching is in order for you and do your research. Just because someone tells you that this or that is a sin research other religions cultures and make up your own mind. Thats why "God" gave you one ;).

Yes atheism is a sin because it goes against the first commandment. Have a nice day and may God Bless you!
2125 Since it rejects or denies the existence of God, atheism is a sin against the virtue of religion. The imputability of this offense can be significantly diminished in virtue of the intentions and the circumstances. "Believers can have more than a little to do with the rise of atheism. To the extent that they are careless about their instruction in the faith, or present its teaching falsely, or even fail in their religious, moral, or social life, they must be said to conceal rather than to reveal the true nature of God and of religion."

I hesitate to say no, but right now I cannot think of it being a sin, but the fact that they do not believe in God is not earning them brownie points. lol. I mean, atheist can still be good people, yet make mistakes. Many Christians are the same. All make mistakes, and all can be forgiven. Sometimes the only difference between a Christian and an atheist is that one has a belief in God.

Based on the meaning of the Ten Commandments, there is no indication that being an atheist is a sin, only that you shouldn't have no other god. Since an atheist believes there is not god, no it's not a sin. However, if an atheist believes himself as his own god, it is a sin.

In christianity, anyone who fails to repent for their sins (or Eve's sins, if they themselves have none) and accept Jesus as their personal savior goes to Hell. Considering this, yeah, I would say that they probably consider atheism a sin. Most other religions probably hold similar views.

I think if you have honest and genuine reasons for believing or not believing what you do, it wouldn't be a sin. And since I'm not one to judge such things, then my answer is no atheism is not a sin on its own.

dont know if that made sense cause im like talkin and typin at the same time, but hope it helped!

I'll take a wild guess and say no
it's a sin only for those who believe in the concept of sin, since atheists do not - then it's not a sin
