I tried many times to take it away but she is a cranky child without it. She is fine when at school but at bedtime she wants it.

That she is fine at school demonstrates her ability to do without it. Point that out to her. You have to be firm and committed in telling her that she is too old and that she must work on doing without it. I think that a gradual course would be best for a kid at that age having had it for so long. Over a period of a week or so, increase the amount of time she spends without it. She will find healthier activities to replace it with and she will learn a great lessen about her own strength and resourcefulness. Maybe you should plan this around a long weekend or a break as she may suffer lack of sleep for a bit (you too).

If that doesn't work, I would consult a behavioral therapist for a brief time to guide you all through it.

Best wishes.

TAKE IT AWAY. So what if she's cranky without it. So is someone quitting any type of addiction. She is old enough that you can talk to her and tell her why she can't have it anymore. Have another bedtime routine, like reading stories or cuddling before she falls asleep. Stay strong, life is better without the pacifier.

Throw it away. She'll be cranky for a few days or a few weeks at bedtime, but that will pass and then she'll totally forget about it. It's not good for her teeth and she'll get teased on sleepovers.

Just throw it away. You'll just have to put up with her being cranky. Believe me she'll get over it. It sounds like you are the one with the problem. You have taught your daughter that if she throws a fit she'll get her way. You need to put a stop to that now.

In my opinion, she is way too old to have a pacifier. She no longer needs it. It is more of a security. If I were you, I would slowly take it away from her. Like, give it to her every other night and then maybe move up to one or two nights and then eventually take it away. Taking a pacifier away from a child is hard, especially at her age. Good luck!

Who cares if she's cranky? She's learned very quickly that if she's cranky she gets her way. That way she gets to rule the house and do what she wants.

Throw it away and if she's cranky send her to her room.
