When is your next medication appointment with the psychiatrist?
Really, you need to do the "getting off medication" under a Dr.'s frequent supervision.
If sexual side effects are your reason for going off the medication, your Dr. may consider switching you to a different med, with less sexual side effects. (Poor girl, more than 20 minutes gets sore )

If you were so depressed that you couldn't work -- before medication
If you were able to go back to work and resume your life and relationships -- on medication
I would be thinking twice before going back down that trail.

It is good you are doing so well now, but... don't you think the meds had something to do with it? You should never just stop a drug it isn't fun. Talk to your Dr about maybe changing your anti depressant I wouldn't want it for that long either so I agree with your wife. I take Wellbutrin and it doesn't have nearly the sexual side effects as others. And I"ve been on alot over the years. I'm a lifer of depression and anxiety so don't feel freaky by staying on an anti-depressant.

I would think it would be okay when your doctor that prescribed the Paroxetine says that you no longer need it. They were obviously prescribed for a purpose, and you need to determine whether that purpose has been fulfilled. If you are still having bad days while you are on them, imagine what it would be like after you quit taking them.

Good luck, and please check with your doctor before you make that decision on your own. When you become severly depressed, you may do things, especially to yourself, that you would not contemplate while you were on the meds.

Many people suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) may be on meds for the rest of their lives. Never stop taking your meds without your drs. consent. You may have to have your meds slowly decreased over time. Make an appointment with your dr ASAP. Tell him/her your concerns about sexual problems. Your dr can switch your meds. Wellbrutin is an excellent medication for MDD with little or no sexual side effects. If you stop your medication your depression will comeback. Please see your doctor today.
