active duty all the way...
reserve forces have longer deployments than active duty and they is a pay deference..

My husband just made the switch from being a reservist to active duty. We LOVE it!! He says being on active duty makes him feel like he's being a Marine 100% of the time instead of just once a month like he used to do. It's up to your boyfriend though. Have him talk to the recruiter and get the pros/cons of both sides.
Advice for you - support him no matter what his decision is. Even if he's stationed really far away, or sent overseas. I promise, it's not as bad as you think. My husband and I went through a deployment a few years back right after we started dating. It was the toughest, yet most rewarding thing we had to do.

Personally, it depends on if he wants to get shipped out. Honestly, if he goes reserve, he'll get sent to Iraq and recieve less money because a lot of reserve units are called to active duty . Active duty he might still get sent to Iraq but have more money doing it. Check these links out...

Personally I would opt for active duty. If you are going to be a member of the best combat unit in the world then you should take an active part of that units traditions.

The first suggestion is always spell Marines with a caital M.

He needs to follow his heart. No one can tell him what to do. Confusion is a normal part of life for anyone. Talk with him more, help him to find out what he wants most. He has to decide for himself. Bless him.
