Definitely around Mansfield. Straight up the Hume Highway and turn right, around Wangaratta. It is beautiful around there, and yes it was damaged in the last bushfire, but is trying to grow back. The hut moved in the movie was destroyed in the fires, but is currently in the process of being rebuilt. Known as Craig's Hut

if you decide to go Mansfield way, go to Wangaratta also and check out where Ned Kelly was shot down. But it might be easier to just go check out the Snowy Mountains, definitely worth the look.... make sure you tour the south coast of nsw. GODS COUNTRY!

It was shot around Mansfield, a little town in the mountains in Victoria. You can drive to the location of the hut (but I think the hut burned in recent bushfires).
