Teresa: These are a certain class of antibiotics. They can be in the form of pills or creams. For a certain portion of the population, they cause allergic reaction. Which is a shame because they are wonderful germ fighters. I am highly allergic to sulfas and it used to be a problem when I would get a urinary tract infection, as that is the preferred form of treatment. Same for pink eye. Common allergic reactions are hives or rashes, but personally I get very nauseated and usually throw up just before the rash breaks out all over my arms, legs, and stomach. I had been allergic to Sulfa my whole lifestyles too, its genetic. I can drink wine however I do get a headache often after even a tumbler, it can be my hypersensitivity. If you feel that your hypersensitivity is getting worse as you grow older, do not monkey round with it. I do not know of any tips instead of warding off it. There are a few wines which can be made with out sulfates.
