Today i just woke up with this feeling in my chest that i think is bad anxiety. I guess if i know why im feeling that way its easy to correct my thinking but today it just stayed with me for a few hours and it felt really bad.
It started yesterday when my gf was upset and didnt call me before i went to bed. I called her up, we talked out the whole problem and i thought i was fine.
Today when i woke up my chest started to feel really tight. I also had a bad feeling throught my whole body almost like high blood presure. When i got to work it got much worse so i called my gf. After another hour i felt better.
Is there anything i can do to help get over this panic feeling/ anxiety i get faster? Maybe drink more water, less sugar, sleep more anything?

I'm actually on medication for anxiety, BUT, the thing that really calms me down the most is: Take the deepest breath you can, let it out very slowly to the count of 10. You can do this anywhere when you feel an attack coming on. Do this about 3 times, you can actually feel your whole body relax. Concentrate ONLY on your breathing....one good inhale, & let it out very slowly to the count of 10. This does work & helps a lot. Try it & see if it doesn't help you. IF it does persist, go to your Dr. & tell him you're having anxiety attacks. There ARE meds. available for you, so don't worry that you're "stuck" w/them w/o any relief, 'cause there is something that can help you. MANY people experience anxiety, especially when we're stressed to the max! Best to you, & I hope this at least w/help you...

As someone with an anxiety disorder, I feel your pain. Make sure your caffeine and sugar intake is low and try some relaxation and breathing exercises. Meditation for about 15-20 minutes every day is very effective. Sometimes an alarm clock will cause that sudden panic feeling in the morning and it can take a little while to wind down.

We all know that the lower brain is still the master brain as it controls heart, breathing and balance etc even while we are unconscious. What we don't know is the upper lobes make an unbalanced chemicals when they have to erase a bad expectation. This chemical hangs around a long time and affects the medulla and so the heart and breathing. In short it makes us feel real bad. If it is too strong it gives the medulla greater powers to access the messages . The endorphins from sex or work will reduce the chemical. Best to get rid of the bad expectations for girlfriends. You will get worse if you dont learn the social rules.

i wake up with anxiety every school day. once i got woken up by anxiety. i was in a half asleep, half awake state and i was thinking about my worries, but now i cannot remember what. i just remember i was tossing around in bed for no reason. i have the anxiety because if certain fears and phobias i have. it has nothing got to do with school actually, besides the fact that i'm FORCED to leave the house.

You have alot of good answers here and some rude ones. If this persists see a Dr. it maybe anxiety which it does sound like and it doesn't care who it chooses to have it. You could have high blood pressure. I have anxiety & high blood pressure that's why I say this. Talk to your girlfriend she seems to play a part in this since you call her to calm down, you may need some meds.

I had that a few times, no matter how trivial it sounds you really have to just try not to think about it and concentrate on something else. What do you enjoy doing? Coiuld be simple things - go for a run, play with a dog, cat (really helps me), take a hot bath, contrast shower really helps too. Also when you hold it inside it gets worse, call up a friend and tell them all about it. Helps too. Also, go to any website with funny videos, jokes or anything funny, loughter helps a great deal! Good luck!

Tell her it was a fun night but she needs to get heck out.
But seriously, I get anxiety attacks too, and I know how debilitating it can be.
You tell yourself it's a matter of will, but some days no matter how much you believe that, it just simply won't matter.
I deal with it using humour and I use humour knowing that sometimes it will fail to contain the anxiety.
You need to find a way. You need to stick to it. And you need to understand that every tool has its down-day.

first of all did you take your girlfriends side on the issue when i sometimes feel i let the other person not know how i really feel iget anxiety and i have to go back to that person and have my say with them anxiety can stem from anger you said you had to call her back i think you need to resolve all your issues even if the conversation takes 10 hours dont be violent anger or mean just speak your mind and if your anxiety stems from her breaking up with you then you dont need anyone who dont respect what you say act mature and hash it out like adults be open and you ll feel better good luck

Take some deep breaths... count to 50 while breathing in and out slowly. While doing that, massage your neck and shoulder muscles.
Take a warm shower...... play soft music in the bathroom loud enough so you can hear it, and keep it going while you are getting yourself ready for the day.
Avoid caffeine... it makes it worse... so does chocolate.
If it keeps getting bad, take St. John's Wart which is an over the counter herbal remedy.
If it persists, see a doctor who can recommend something that works for you.

OH, I thought you meant a GIRL named Anxiety!
Seriously:
- Don't drink
- Stay away from caffeine.
- Get sunlight.
- Listen to self-hypnosis tapes about anxiety.
If that doesn't work, there are prescriptions that work well.
