First off, disregard all the people saying "crazy religion" or "rapists". It is in fact, just another denomination inside Christianity, not a completely different "religion" as some people are calling it. They are uninformed. To answer your question, Baptists are typically known as being quite conservative. My father is a Free Will Baptist preacher (yet another denomination of Christianity). We believe that you have free will. We do not believe, as Southern Baptists do, that once you are converted you are unable to lose your Christianity. We believe that even after you are converted, you can still stray away from God and denounce Christianity. Sounthern Baptists believe once you are saved, you are always saved (you can't lose your Christianity). Baptists believe in fundamental Christianity: Jesus was the Son of God, he was born and lived his life in complete perfection, was crucified and rose from the dead after three days. We do not believe you have to be baptised to be saved. Church of Christ's (another denimination) believe you receive your salvation once you are baptised. We do however strongly encourage people to be baptised as it is a public statement of your conversion. I hope this helps, and good luck to you on making this important decision in your life.

Basic Baptist Doctrines include, but are not limited to:
The Trinity--Father, Son, Holy Spirit
Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead
Salvation by grace
The Scriptures are the infallible words of God
Baptist churches are governed by various associations. There are many sects of Baptists.
Missionary, Freewill, Seventh Day, and Southern Baptists, there may be more....
The Southern Baptists are the strictest and this is where many who are called "fundies" come from. Although this term is used in a negative way to ridicule, it actually means that a Fundamentalist is someone who upholds the doctrine.
feel free to email if you have a specific question and I will help you to find an answer

The three most important tenants of the Baptist faith are:
1-- Salvation by Grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone
and not through works, church membership or good
deeds.
2-- Baptism of the Believer only through full emersion
3-- Obersvance of the Lords Supper (Communion) as the only
other ordinance
Contrary to what others have said not all Baptist believe in the TULIP, Calvinism nonsense. Calvin didn't even make that TUPIP thing up.

There's more to it than that. You profess that you are truly saved by His blood... You speak to the pastor You go before the church and ask for membership. THEN if all is a go, you baptise in a baptist church. Then you are a member. If you are not serious about being a baptist member, do not baptize in a baptist church.

Well, I guess I can't speak for all Baptists because there are different denominations, but I'll try my best. I'm a Freewill Baptist and our beliefs are pretty simple. We believe that Jesus Christ is God's son and died on the cross for our sins. We believe the only way to Heaven is to accept Christ as your personal savior. We believe in the Bible and obeying the commandments. We believe in continuously striving to have a closer relationship with God.
The most important piece of information I can relay to you is to first ask God to forgive you of your sins and be baptised. From there, selecting a denomination is a personal choice. There are so many to choose from: Baptist, Methodist, the Church of Christ. As long as you have the right core beliefs, God will lead you where you're meant to go. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Once you are baptised you are accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior.
You are expected to believe that all other religions are wrong and those people are going to burn in hell if they don't accept Christ.
You don't confess your sins to your pastor like catholics do.
The general concepts are ok but as I've gotten older I've learned that baptists (along with many other denominations of Christianity) are very exclusionary. At this point I choose not to go to church but everyone has to walk their own path.
I hope you are given some informative answers on here and not just a bunch of criticism for wanting to have God in your life.

From an outsiders perspective:
Baptists believe in being saved through simply accepting Jesus as their Savior and being baptised. From there much of it will vary from congregation to congregation. some can be very accepting and open to a wide variety of theories and philosophies, others may be extremely conservative. In order to get any more specific you would have to ask the preacher over the congregation you want to join. My suggestion would be to make a list of the beliefs that are important to you and look up info on them in the Bible (or even read the bible--specifically the New Testament, starting in Matthew) and get some specific questions ready for the preacher, your mom, your friends. Ask things that are important to you. My questions would range from "Do you believe in God as the trinity or that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are seperate beings?" all the way to "Do you beleive in infant baptism?".

You should talk to the Church's bishop/priest. Also, try talking with other members in the local Baptist church. Here in YA maybe you will not find the information you need since the religion bashing and stuff here is kinda huge :P
I do not advice you to google it since when you google it, a lot of different Baptists congregations and stuff come up and it can be confusing.... for me it was; no1 knows and they are the same with different name?
If u meet any baptist here in YA try to keep in tough with them and send them emails and stuff so you can ask them your concerns, anyways it is better to talk directly with someone from your church.
Do not follow a religion's name, follow God. Before making that desicion of baptizing pray to God for guidance and find out what is right to do and if the Baptist church is the right place for you.
Good luck...

what kind of Baptist are you thinking of becoming. There are several kinds within the denomination. I am am a southern or conservative Baptist. We believe that Jesus was God made man and was the perfect sacrifice for our sins. It is only through Him that we can come; not by works. I am not quite sure what else you are looking for........You could go to a Baptist church and ask to talk to the pastor.

I am from a conservative Baptist church
we believe the Bible is the Word of God given to believers for instruction
it is our belief that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose on the third day and is seated at the right hand of the Father
we believe salvation is a free gift that cannot be earned
God is constantly seeking a personal relationship with His children
a goal for us is to be in the world but not "of" it
and that just scratches the surface
seek the baptist churches in your area for what they observe and embrace as what they believe
I wish you well
