Spirituality is divided into three levels of realization: impersonal, localized and personal. Just like the sun can be realized in three aspects: effulgence, sun planet and the controlling deity. God's effulgence is called Brahman, His localized feature is Paramatma and the ultimate realization is His personal feature as Bhagavan.
Religion is a spiritual practice tinged with a local color. An authorized religion is instigated by a pure devotee of the Lord in order to serve the necessities of a particular time and place. Persons who perfectly follow the instructions of their spritual leader (Jesus Christ, Mohammed...) will attain the highest perfection

I think they are not similar. You are better sticking to spirituality. If you find a religion that lines up with what you have discovered after much soul searching and practice then maybe you could participate in it.
The three essentials of faith are the Teacher, the Teaching and the group of Practicioners (also called the Three Jewels). But greatest among these must be the Teaching. Find that Teaching and you are on the way.

In actuallity there is no similarity. Spirituality is the act of being Spiritual or living within the realm and parameters of the Holy Spirit. {of GOD}
Religion is the formation of theological practice and the belief in a certain form of worship.{as perceived by MAN}
CHRISTianity is not a religion. Christianity is a life-style which emulates Spiritually, the attributes and characteristics of the life that Jesus of Nazareth and Gallilee lived and displayed from birth til crucifixion upon the Cross. That is why His disciples {Ac:11:26: }....... And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Religion may be expressed in many way, by traditions and forms and group or communal belief. For example I could exerpt three passages of Scripture from the Bible: 1. Judas went out and hanged himself. 2. Whatso ever thou doest do quickly. and 3 Go and do thou likewise.
By forming them in a chronological order and with very charasmatic form I could announce to the world: "JUDAS WENT OUT AN HANGED HIMSELF, GO AND DO THOU LIKEWISE AND WHATSOEVER YOU DO, DO QUICKLY." I have just given you the formula for a brand new religious order whose goal is not Spirituality, but martydom and self destruction.
Spirituality can not be seen by the naked eye, but may be observe by the presence of Spirituality in the person in whom the Spirit abides.
Like fruit on a tree there are many spirits, and each spirit is recognizable by the Spirit of Disernment. There are evil spirits and there are good spirits. There are demonic spirits and there are holy spirits; but there is only One Divine Holy Spirit.
The reason there is no similarity in religion and spirituality is because religion extends from man toward God and Spirituality extends from God to mankind. Religion comes out of man, in the form of questions. And Spirituality enters into man in the form of answers.

Hi....Spirituality is defined as an inner sense of something greater than oneself. Recognition of a meaning to existence ones immediate circumstances. Another way of describing spirituality is: spirituality's sensitivity or attachment to religious values. Concerns with things of the spirit. Now one definition of religion states: A set of attitudes, beliefs and or practices pertaining to supernatural power. So with both of these in mind both believe in the spiritual form of their beliefs. Both of them are of supernatural form. God is a great spirit or entity which is practiced in a lot of religions of faith.Such as Methodist, Catholic, Protestant, Lutheran and so forth. It's a name given to those who believe in that type of religion. Spiritualists believe in their God or Spirit also but don't practice a certain named religion. This is my opinion on the differences, others might have a different view than mine. Have a blessed day!

While each have similar beliefs, spirituality is much more freeing than a religion that lays fear on us.

If religion is the pathway to God, then spirituality is the path itself. Certain tenets of religion form the basis of spirituality.
