I said round. I know what acorns are. these are not acorns. they are everywhere in my town. they are green round things that are firm when they first fall then they wither and turn brown. If you cut them open or squash them, it looks like cherry juice is inside. there is also a soft core in the very center. Thjis is the first year I have ever seen these things. I have lived in the area all my life. Others in my town are wondering the same thing.

I suppose it could be some sort of gall. A gall is a deformation in the plant caused by parasitic insect larvae.

The only thing that grows on oak trees (acorns) is Acorns and mistletoe. Mistletoe does produce a small red berry that is poisonous.

Anything else would be a different type of tree. It is possible that two trees have grown together and it may look like the oak tree is dropping the fruit.

Amazingly...OAK trees produce ACORNS. The green things are ACORNS!!! The squirells LOVE EM!!

Odds are, it's and oak tree. Their fruit are acorns.
