Cops talking on cell phones while driving? Check.

Cops drinking & driving? Check.

Cops beating their spouses or children? Check.

Cops running red lights & stop signs while not on duty? Check. (And don't tell me you are allowed to do this while off-duty -- balderdash!)

Cops doing drugs? Check.

Cops exceeding the speed limit by the 10 mph "cushion" while not on duty? Check. (Again, don't tell me that you are allowed to ignore the laws while off duty! Horse Hockey)

Granted, it's not EVERY cop or EVERY instance. But I would be willing to bet that less than 5% of all cops are 100% law abiding citizens 100% of the time. Face it, none of us are!

Although Cops are hired to enforce the law and help people, just as any profession they make mistakes, and also have been guilty of breaking the law. I am a speeder, not really fast, but at times I speed. Therefore, when I am working patrol as a Police Officer I am very liberal with enforcement of speeding violations. I cut people huge breaks, and remember that I too have broken the speed limit. For the rest of the big things we all pretty much tow the line. The majority of Police Officers are proud professionals who provide a huge service to the rest of society. Examples of misdoings although to frequent in my opinion really are just a few! The media tends to capitalize on this, and for that there has been this perception that most cops are bad! Just not the case!

Although the screening process gets rid of most undesirables, it is not perfect and a few bad cops make it to the streets. Unfortunately, good cops rarely make the news, and bad cops ALWAYS do. That gives the impression there are many more bad cops out there than there actually are.

The one thing to remember about bad cops, good cops don't like them either.

For those of you looking to find fault & hang someone just remember one thing will you? Cops are people too. They endure the same frustrations as you do. They endure the same family ups & downs as anyone else. Cops are Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts & uncles......and yes, grandparents.

They have all the family situations as anyone else, not to mention the highest suicide rate. (tearsofacop.com) So next time you feel inclined to pass judgement, how about if you realize he or she is a human being with the same feelings, anxieties, fears as you.

I speed and I've received tickets for speeding but I've never "arrested" anyone for speeding.

Never beaten my wife, arrested plenty of folks who have.
Never sold drugs (or used), arrested plenty of folks who have.
Never driven drunk, arrested plenty of folks who have.
You get the picture...

The problem with criminals and other scoff-laws is that they think that everyone else is like them. They try and rationalize that everyone does ______(fill in with their particular crime) and that they were just unlucky/victimized by the system or a "dirty cop" when caught and held accountable. Thus the cops must be doing the same crimes....sad really.

In reality most people don't come into contact with the police. Plenty of folks have never been pulled over, never issued a ticket and never arrested.

Hmmmm.
Good question.

Cops talking on cell phones while driving? Check.
This not illegal in my state.

Cops drinking & driving? Check.
I don't drink and drive.

Cops beating their spouses or children? Check.
I have never beat my wife or son.

Cops running red lights & stop signs? Check.
I am allowed to do this in certain circumstances.

Cops doing drugs? Check.
Never done this........even once.

Cops exceeding the speed limit by the 10 mph cushion? Check.
I am allowed to speed under certain circumstances and there is no such thing as a 10 mph cushion.

Looks like I'm doing okay. But then again I am only responsible for my own actions.

What kind of cops? Traffic or Narcotics? The more serious the crime the less accurate that percentage is gonna be because which cop in his right mind is gonna admit it?

Probably 5%. As for the other 95% of the peace officers? I will and can call them anytime day or night and someone will come to help me if I need it. I have met far more honest than dishonest.

Plenty.
Where I live a prison correctional officer creamed and killed a lady while dui. The public is outraged, but I know cops drink as much as any other person. They just have ways to get out of stuff.

lol @ Wuxxler's 3.856%

I'd be so bold as to dare anyone to give an accurate percentage since obviously they know better than anyone what can happen if they get caught ... so they are better at not getting caught.
