rib is a mistranslation. eve came from adam's side. the story is that before they split, they were both connected, as one being. that is a metaphor for asexual reproduction. when female was created from the side of man, that is a metaphor for the evolution fo sexual reproduction.

The story is simply an allegory. The real point of it is that God created man by some means...and at some point man turned away from God and fell into sin.
That Eve was formed from Adam's ribs can be read to mean that the female of a species is of the same general essence as the male.
But the details of the actual creation process are less important in Genesis than the central idea that at some point...man turned away from God.

The Hebrew word for 'rib' also means 'curve' as in the curved DNA double helix. Maybe he fell asleep and woke up next to a Kyle XX type woman. Or maybe she was a curvy proto-human? Do we really understand how the first males and females of ANY species show up in the same place and time?

The e book of Genesis isn't a treatise on geology or biology. that's a theological narrative this is attempting to reveal the courting of God to the act of advent, and advent's courting with God. extra, one ought to assert the life of God because of the fact the formal reason for the universe, including the technique of evolution, devoid of any connection with or perception interior the biblical narrative. i could propose the paintings of John Polkinghorne related to the courting of non secular worldviews and those of technological expertise.

One interesting point is that it doesn't say God ever woke him up! The first hint of separation was Adam's thought, I AM lonely. We still dream of separation and loneliness.
