i was watching something on CNN about this while at work...there is no way to regulate childrens medications from the adult version so your actually overdosing your children on medication....i never give out meds unless prescribed by the doctor...if i can't help them fight it by a few days of cuddling and lots of naps with chicken noodle soup then off to the doctors we go!!! there was a daycare that actually killed a child because she had been giving the kids cold medicine to make them go to sleep faster...something made the police check the used diapers in the garbage and thats where they found the remains of the medication...if it weren't for checking they would have not known how the baby died

I don't think that the medications themselves are scary. What is scary is parents who use the full dose recommended for a 2-6 year old for a child under two. Medication needs to be administered by weight. You can't give the entire dose for a 2 year old to an under two year old. Most of the drugs in those medications are stimulants and definitely can mess with the heart.

People tend to overmedicate themselves and their children. Colds are best left to tend to themselves. They'll run their course quicker unmedicated. (The drugs stop the immune system's natural actions to flush out the virus).

Prescription medications aren't any safer and often less safe. Also it has been common knowledge for years that most cough and cold remedies do NOTHING, and that antihistamines are unsafe for children under the age of two.

1] don't give or take any medication that has been on the market less than five years
2] don't give any medication to a child under two years unless the doctor recomended it and you know the EXACT dosage for him/her
3] read and follow instructions on every label, and don't give to children if not recomended
