it's not quite the same though, if i see a dog attacking me, or if i see something i don't understand. or is it just that i would interpret the feelings differently? for eg. if i were to see a large green dog w/ a mask on, i would be more afraid.... and less rational in my response?

It is caused by adrenalin. As for sea monsters that is the imagination of sailors usually brought on by Vitamin deficiencies, mainly vitamin C and too much rum.

My 4 year old daughter will not go into my aunt's house. It is the house that my uncle and my grandmother both died in and I think it might have something to do with that. She freaks out, kicks and screams and runs in the other direction.

You might find some information in Andrew Newberg's works, such as "Why We Believe What We Believe, " and "Why God Won't Go Away." He deals with the neurological effects of belief.

the feeling is fear....it is caused by a release of adrenaline by the brain to prepare the body for "fight or flight".
