I initially said NO however, I recall when I was going to England, there was something in the information I received that said......"because of how narrow most of the roads are in England and how big our American Cars are" they suggested against shipping your vehicle.
So.... I think it's really going to depend upon what TMO says. There should be something in your orders that will tell you if shipment of POV is authorized.
Generally, in State-Side to State-Side moves, the member is responsible for transport of their own vehicles..
Over the years since I've been in, they might have changed policies and so it might depend upon your rank if you can get the authorization.
When I was stationed in England, I bought a car there and sold it to another military member before I left. You could probably do that in Japan.
Also remember since in Japan, they drive on the Left side of the road (similar to England). It is a bit of a hazard driving a Left Driver side vehicle on the left side of the road. You'll understand when you get there because all our US military vehicles are Left Driver Sided.

No you can't. Your orders will tell you that your POV is not authorized to go. Japan's emission laws are much more strict than ours, so your big truck isn't going to pass. The roads there are very narrow too. Go outside and find any alley...that's a 2-way street in Japan.
You don't even need a vehicle there anyways. Japan has one of the best public transportation systems in the world. If the train schedule says it will arrive at 14:46, it WILL arrive at 14:46.
I'm pretty sure they'll put it into long-term storage for you though, so just make the payments and enjoy your still new truck when you leave.

I don't believe you will be able to take the truck with you to Japan, they have different vehicle regulations, and insurance requirements, shipping would be expensive too. Unless you're going to be stationed on Hokkaido you wouldn't want to drive your truck around in Japan anyway, driving there in a small car is hard enough. The parking spaces are tight for a small car, and nearly impossible for your truck. Was stationed there a while back, and also had a truck that payments were being made on. Ended up putting the truck in storage, and dropping the insurance to storage only, and upon return, had a low mileage truck that was payed off.

Well, I don't think you can take your car. You will be charged an arm and a leg to get insurance there. In Japan you have to carry 2 insurance policies.
I would put the truck in storage and continue to make payments so when you return it will be paid off and have very low miles. I would have a trusted person go and start the vehicle monthly and add a fuel additive to make sure it will start when you need it.
You could also drop the insurance on the truck to "Storage Only" level.
Good luck!

Used cars are cheap in Japan and people on the base going home sell their cars to people arriving. It would probably be possible to register a F-250 in Japan, but a huge hassle. At 100 yen or so for a litre of gasoline, it's not really what you want to have. At least you could probably get %6 on your payments if you are paying more at present.

As far as being legal in Japan, i dont know. I do know that that is a huge truck to be driving on or off base in a foreign country. The military will move your vehicle. There are restrictions too as to size and weight.

The straight up answer is no. Due to strict emission laws in Japan the military can not ship any car build after a certain date. I believe the model year is 1975 or so. So if it is after that year you are out of luck.
