if you're looking for a more natural solution and want to avoid pesticides, Borax is the best way to go. =)

You don't want to put the borax on your animal--only on the carpeting, furniture, etc., where you can vacuum it up in a couple of days. This is under CATS, so I'm assuming that you have a cat. The best thing I've found is FrontLine Plus--for an adult cat, not for a kitten. You can get this from your vet, groomer or a well-stocked pet supply store.

Borax will help remove them from the environment but will not get them off the dog and won't entirely eliminate them. You need Frontline or Advantage to get them off the animal completely.

I have used the Borax power on my carpets for Fleas

Shake on and vacum up - No wet carpet, No bad insecticide smell.

It killed them the first day.

On more time to kill the hatched eggs and you are good to go

I highly recommend it.
