We have companies in Mexico and other countries that are doing atrociuous things to workers.Sweat shops,Slave labor whatever you want to call it.Polluting their environment because they can't here.Shouldn't these American companies be held liable for these Abuses of Human rights and shouldn't they also be fined according to what our communities have had to pay in money and grief for the mass immigration this has caused so people can live getting decent wages?Someone needs to hold them accountable.I think the U S needs to step up and take the first action. What do you think?

Dog Tricks What don't you list the companies and each outstanding violation they are in contempt of and each country you say has Sweat shops,Slave labor whatever you want to call it, where is a list that confirms any of this? I find it very interesting you want human rights enforced but only in Latin America. What about Iran, Dog Tricks,Cannot have a TV there arrests are made daily just for having a TV there.Cannot Have Music, Must dress a certain way,if not arrested thrown in Jail happens daily.
How about China? Workers make 45-54 cents an hour. What about these abuses of Human rights ? Where is the US going to get all this money when Bush ignores Darfur: A Genocide We Can Stop how much help has the UN given there and they have kids fighting in their wars as young as 6 years old.The whole world knows about it but again the UN is unable to do anything. Much of what you ask depends on how cooperative the countries government wants to be.

And who said the governement and the tax payers should pay?Note I said hold the COMPANIES responsible financially.
Dog Tricks I think the U S needs to step up and take the first action , this means our tax dollars would have to be used if the government still works for the people somebody has to have money just to look into it and this again it cost the tax payers money. The US can look into whatever they want but still it is upon how cooperative the countries government wants to be.They do not have to allow anyone in no matter what their mission. Iran nukes were not stopped by the UN they simply told them to get out and stay out and the whole world knows this. The UN has been ridden with scandals with the oil for food program, they were keeping the money the UN was and giving kick backs to Iraq and much of the money never ended up where it was intended and people suffered from the UN'S greed.

Shouldn't the government of Mexico step up?
After all it is their citizens and their air that is being poisoned.
American companies (however odious it is) are only doing what is most profitable for them. It is cheaper for them to operate in Mexico so therefore that is where they move their facilities.
What is really strange is that we have all these Mexicans ( the ones here illegally) taking jobs from America in America and American companies taking work from the American worker and giving it to the Mexican worker in Mexico.
In American our workers and our environment are protected by our government- is it too much to expect Mexico to do the same- instead of beating up on private industry doing what is natural- why don't you question why Mexico takes such little interest in handling matters concerning their citizens rights.

I mean why would you want to spend more of our tax dollars enforcing American law in a foreign country- I am sorry I can think of better ways for the government to spend my dime.

First off, the UN is just a bunch of mam-by pamby money grubbing useless jack@$$es. That being said, doesn't the responsibility fall on the government of Mexico to create and enforce laws and regulations to protect the workers and environment, etc? They can't do it in the USA because there ate laws and regulations. Why also do you blame these companies for the migration north? Perhaps if the US government enforced its own border and laws there would be many fewer illegal migrants.
The action the US needs to take is to enforce the law in the US. If Mexico and other countries are happy to watch their own people and environment be held to a lower standard the US's let them.
Perhaps the Mexican people should demand more from their own government instead of passing the responsibility along to companies. Americans should demand more from their leaders to get things don in the best interest of the country too rather than kow towing to party lines and special interests.
The most special interest in the US should BE the US. The population and country as w whole, not bits and pieces of it.

That isn't the UN's job to regulate wages in world. It is the individual countries to take care of their citizen.

If their government doesn't the people should deal with or you can join the peace corp. and go and deal with it.
The world population is 6 Billion 300 Million= (as the USA) and growing and 60% of the population lives in proverty.

The only way to stop these problems you spoke of is to curb population growth and come into the 21th century high tech society that needs less people. Anything short of that people will be used and abused.

There are three basics for human survival , Food, Clothing and Shelter. They just have to be minimal to survive.
Mass of anything animals or humans only creates indifference toward them by powerful to use them for their purpose. That is how the world has always been and until we change that attitude things are only going to get worse.

The USA is going to be a real good example with our mass out of control immigration of poor people. We are going to go from 21th century to a 13th century in less then 50 yrs.

the companies should be held accountable, but we don't need the un involved. The united nations is a worthless organization and takes power away from us as usa citizens. We need to stand strong as the usa.. hold people accountable, and enforce our own laws. The other countries should do the same, but it is not up to us for this to happen

Yeah thanks to NAFTA, it you don't believe me read a book called "The Daughters of Juarez" by Teresa Rodriguez. It is about all these murders that have been going on since the US decided to take their factories over to Mexico in order to get cheap labor. That is what NAFTA has caused! Also we get a lot of stuff from China and Taiwan, do you think they have good labor laws there. The government does not care, otherwise why not get the food from our farmers here in the US where we have to meet safety standards?

well I DONT condone it but I was watching a show, I think it was Nightline or 60 minutes where they interviewed the owner of a company in Asia that uses child labor to take apart large ships and meltdown the steel and he said "You can either continue to live the Western lifestyle with wanting everything cheap with children working, making 50 cents a day, or you can have 60,000 children starving and dying at home"

Kind of puts it into perspective

I think that will never happen. These companies are making so much money that they pay off whomever they want and have to.

The only thing the UN should step in to is New York Harbor. Problem is, they would pollute it beyond redemption.
