I have a bowel disease and this is an every day problem for me. My doctor put me on a lactose-free diet about a month ago and a lot of the bloating decreased. I haven't been able to eat pizza and other cheese-loaded foods, though I have been able to used soy and rice-based alternatives (not as bad as they sound!) It's really a small price to pay for a reduction in bloating. It sounds like you know what's causing most of your bloating---your diet. Modifying it to lower-lactose could help significantly but also requires great committment. Also limiting raw vegetables and carbonated beverages like beer. I've found that artifical sweeteners (like the ones in Diet Coke, sugar-free gum, etc) cause great gas for me!

Over-the-counter drugs such as Gas-X work for mild gas, but do not help me. Worth a try though. You will also find that a lot of gas/bloating is caused by constipation. Milk of Magnesia is best to take for constipation and you can basically use it as often as needed. Hope these ideas help you some!

If it truely is a problem there is a simple solution. Buy some OTC Simethicone 80 mg tablets available most everywhere. Inexpensive about $6 per 100. They are the base chemical that all anti-gas products contain, without a bunch of additives you don't need but and are strictly anti-gas. They have a pleasant taste of mint. You chew two tablets when the pressure becomes bothersome and the gas goes away.......end of story.....

Good idea to keep away from the things your body can't digest properly.

But when it does happen, there is an over the counter chewable med you can take called "Oval 80". Basically what it does is expand inside your stomach which then pushes the gas out each end. A little embarrassing perhaps but it will leave you feeling better in no time.

I hope that helps. :)
