It seem like that is the going rate by most automakers for this feature. I'm in the market for a Honda Pilot and don't really feel like I need a built in navigation system, but people who have it tell me that I will regret it later if I don't get this feature. I guess it is a nice luxury item. I'd like to get other opinions. Is it work paying for this feature?

I have a Volvo XC90 and did not feel the need for a navigation system. Think about it... how often do you actually need detailed directions? A few times a year? Unless you have a job that requires extensive traveling, I would not waste your money. They seem a little dangerous because people pay more attention to a computerized map than the road. You can always go to Yahoo Maps or Mapquest to get directions. Good luck to you, and congratulations on the new car.

No, its not worth it. I purchased one for my Buick Rend.

I found you can't use it while your driving (safety issue) when you have them come with the car installed. However, in many cases the passenger is using it while you're driving. Besides you can get a good Garmin for much less than that and if you travel like I do - you may need to take it with you one day. You can't always take YOUR car - the Garmin is portable. Your built in navigation system is not.

Definately worth it. I have it in my Lexus RX350 and it's been very useful. I used to look up routes on Yahoo map but now I don't have to. Plus whenever I go to an unfamiliar area, I'll know where the nearest gas stations, ATMs and restaurants are just by sneaking a peek at the GPS.

The Honda GPS includes rear backup camera so if you have kids or pets it can literally save their lives.

If it is worth $2,000 to you...then yes it is worth it. If you would rather buy a $400 removable model at Best Buy and keep your $1,600 for something else, then do that. I will say that you generally do not make this money back on resale. Therefore leases generally don't capitalize NAV systems. It raises the lease price big time.
