Well, first off, you CAN read bibles in schools, but just on your own time, we have a Christian club in my school, where they read and do whatever they do with the Bible...but you shouldn't do it in class teaching it (unless from a literacy standpoint) As for in prison, usually, adults go to prison, and they have a choice to read it or not, because since school is there to teach (science, literature, math, social studies, history, etc., but NOT religion) and prison is there to punish the wrongdoers, well, they can get the Qu'ran, Torah, or whatever holy book they want in there...And if you REALLY have to compare a school and prison to try and make bible reading legal in schools, then that is very saddening....even IF school sometimes takes on the aura of a prison....but still, Hope I helped some....^_^

The US government does not allow the teaching of religion in public schools because the Constitution states there is a separation of Church and state. Also, what religion would be taught because there are many religions that exist here in the US?
In prisons it is very different due to the faith-based initiative and the ideal that by introducing religious studies a change in the lives of those incarcerated will be changed. They will develop a real sense of morality. Redemption from a life of crime is the intent behind this initiative.

They can read a Bible in public schools, but are not allowed to have classes involving the teaching of the Bible and etc. for the government would then have to step in and allow for ALL faiths to have provisions made for their teachings from the Koran, the Pentateuch and etc..... As far as prison is concerned, they can read whatever they wish for their personal betterment, education and etc.

School systems have generally determined that when it comes to teaching history, they have a decided preference for factual history. This of course, eliminates the bible. Criminals in prison are a bit different than children attempting to get an education. The bible probably can't do the inmates much harm. They are adults and can decide if they want to read fiction or not. They are not there to get an education.

There should be nothing keeping children from bringing a Bible to school and reading it on their own time. Do not expect the school to teach from the bible, though. That is not their function.

Children can read Bibles in schools. The state can't force them to, just as it can't force prisoners to read Bibles.

Your kids can bring a bible to any public school in the country and read it all they want between classes, in study hall, or during lunch.
They just won't be taught anything from it by teachers paid from public funds, and we should keep it that way.

Actually, children can read Bibles in school where they've made it fair to read other religious writings too, and of course when it is for study.
When someone is in prison, it doesn't make sense to take away their holy books! So, it has to be allowed.

Hummmm, It is a certainty that if the bible where not removed from the schools the prison population would be a lot lower.
It confirms the belief that the liberals are perpetuating the dependency of Americans on government solutions.

?? The Children can read any books they want that doesn't have a profane image on the front as long as it's not disturbing their class work and time. I saw people walking around with Bibles all the time just a few years ago in high school.
