Thank you for being here with us too ! :))

If I take my shoes off and put on another person's shoes, I would feel the pain in the feet if they are much less than a men's size 12 Wide.

Long, wise Human experience and fatherly-brotherly love are neded to understand your Brother or Sister in pain. Feeling the pain is not required. A ruptured organ in your body causes you great pain, but the skilled surgeon just fixed you up well without feeling your pain literally. He'll encourage you by saying: "See ! That wasn't so bad ! (to me)" LOL

No Human can actually exactly "feel your pain"; as each Human is an unchanging PERSONALITY absolutely UNIQUE --without duplicate -- in both time and in Eternity ! "I am of I AM" Thank You our Father !

Yes, it's called empathy. And yes I can actually sometimes feel pain. It depends on how deeply I try to understand. On the lighter side, only if the shoe is a wide fit 6 1/2.

Having an Asperger Syndrome ex and a son with the same condition... this question rings deep for me!

I am a medium... no choice... lifelong... I've been sensitive to other peoples needs throughout my life... it has hurt me personally always... but after life with AS people... I wouldn't have it any other way... maybe that is why God chose to allow me this experience... who knows... since if there is an opposite end to this condition... I am it... and yes... I feel other peoples pain inside... and most angry people are in inner turmoil and afraid... and hurt deeply... which they cover with verbal abuse and by going on the attack.

Asperger Syndrome is the most overt type of this behaviour... they wear a shiled all day... live in constant fear of the unknown... and because the cannot understand themselves... cannot organise their thinking... they cover by false confidence and by verbally abusing those who love them... because after putting on their 'mask' and 'shield' against the world for their daily grind inside the populace they fear... yet need... they have to take them off as soon as they walk in the door... only those who truly love them... see them as they really are... frightened children... all their lives!

Empathy... they lack empathy... they cannot ever 'put themselves in other peoples shoes' and they would see this question as it's written... literally... and they see shoes inside their head... and so are seemingly flippant... in their answer...

I've been reading all the answers... and we have more than a few in here:-)

But then... that's why you asked.... ennit?

Experience across 62 years of other people's pain...

Amen never judge unless you have walked at least a mile in someone elses shoes. God is teaching me this lesson now just because most is given to a person does not mean they should stop giving a damn about others and the Lord has been loving and kind to point this out in my life E4G

Not really. I've become desensitized to pain and human emotion after the childhood I lived in. I also had a very disfiguring condition throughout most of my teenage years, which left me a freak of society for that span. Now when I look at most peoples in which I would consider small (divorce and such), I feel no empathy as I have trouble feeling emotion at all.

hi New Moon, particular, I take up human beings’s emotions and emotions like a sponge soaks up water. i come across it comes needless to say to experience what different persons experience and to wreck with them. This has its reward and its hazards. reward: whilst different persons are happy I certainly experience happy too. putting myself in somebody else's shoes provides me a extra perfect experience of timing: you do not wreck undesirable information to somebody who's already feeling very very down. You anticipate the incredible 2d! additionally it helps me to help them. hazards: If I spend too lots time with somebody who's depressed (say seeing them in many circumstances over some months) then I start to experience detrimental and depressed too. I’m unsure how some human beings can understand the suggestions and emotions of others. perhaps understanding or adventure of what they're dealing with. perhaps being waiting to think of what they're dealing with. I do look to truly understand human beings and persons look to discover it uncomplicated to speak to me. And the excellent element to friendship isn't in straightforward terms to rejoice with the forged circumstances collectively yet to help one yet another for the duration of the undesirable stuff too. thank you for inviting me into your circle lower back. Have a large evening. :) Polly

I can use my imagination and knowledge of the person to pretend to feel their pain and, on occasion, I can do a damn fine acting job, but I could never really experience the world as someone else does. Everyones shoes are custom made.

I have been through most of lifes crap in one way or another so yes I can put myself in someone elses shoes and do feel the pain they go through.
I never tell them what to do as it is their life but good listening skills are more important if you have someone who will listen to you , you are half way there to helping.
bless you and have a wonderful day too what ever you do.

Often, but not always. It is easiest when you understand the person, either they are friends or they have taken time to tell you who they are, how they feel. Being empathetic has its downsides too, it is not sympathy, you can feel very real pain. Empathy towards animals is said to be one of the main reasons for people who become vegetarian/vegan.
