being a firefighter, policeman, or being in the military does not make you a hero!!! because what you are doing is your job!!! now if a barber saved someones life that would make him a hero!!!

I agree with you somewhat, and disagree somewhat. I think everyone should be recognized for a job well done.

Saying that, when I go into the office, my risk of being killed is pretty low. Firefighters and policepersons are at a much higher risk of injury or death everyday. While I think their day to day actions warrant only a casual thank you, sometimes they ago above and beyond, at great personal risk, to benefit another.

This should be recognized.

I both disagree and agree on an even level I feel policeman, firefighters and military personel are the worlds heros b/c without them there would be disorder and extreme trouble for us citizens but there are also unsung heros they are MOMs,Dads, Family members in our lives who go to great lengths to protect us and keep us safe -so yes anyone can be a hero and you dont exactly have to be soo lucky to save a life you could be your own hero and that would make you a great person indeed!

Policemen ( and women) and firefighters, military etc. still qualify for hero status. These people stand between victims and harm every time they go to work. Granted, they are getting paid, but they could be doing other jobs ( easier, less risky ones ) for the same or more money. They attain hero status just by clocking in.

Anyone who thinks that your JOB automatically makes you a HERO is a very STUPID person.

A HERO is someone who exhibits COURAGE, by SELF-SACRIFICE, for the GREATER GOOD and is of MORAL EXCELLENCE. This person COULD BE a firefighter, police-person, in the military, OR a BARBER. It is the ACTIONS of the person, NOT their occupation.

A football player that wins the game IS NOT A HERO. You did not state WHERE you got your information, man I hope you are wrong -

Heroes are as a result of their heroic deeds. A firefighter standing outside a burning, single story house and putting the flames out is not a hero. The more of a life risk someone takes the more heroic their deed, regardless of the expectations of their occupation.

Firefighters, police, military are not "heroes" by job description- they're heroes by their deeds.

A "hero" is defined as a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

If a person--firefighter, police officer, military officer or barber--saves someones life, any one of them would be a hero.

I'm a firefighter, and I sure don't see myself as a hero... You're totally right, being a hero is something you would do at that second if something happened in front of you

I think for you that may be true but the hero thing is designed to help children understand who can be good role models for them. Better a fire fighter than a questionable rock star.

I disagree with you. Willingly putting one's life on the line every day for the safety of others qualifies someone as a hero in my mind... whether it is their "job" or not, it is still voluntary and no one is forcing them to do it.

I agree. While I respect all of the above and have family members that are all of the above, a true hero to me is someone who until that very moment, wouldn't have thought they would be putting themselves in harms way for another.
