Eleventy: wow!

Dream: Evolution is change over time. Darwinism is a theory of what makes those changes happen. There are other theories, such as genetic drift.

Two related reasons: In the media and informal, uneducated debate, the terms Darwinism and evolution are sometimes used synonymously. Most people under the impression that they are the same thing have only been exposed to this misconception and have not attempted to dig any deeper.

Also, the difference is often discussed in undergraduate level biology classes (certainly not in grade school here in the South) and I assume folks who confuse the two have never taken any biological science classes.

Dictionary sez:

Dar·win·ism (där'wĭ-nĭz'əm) pronunciation
n.

A theory of biological evolution developed by Charles Darwin and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.

What do you think it means?

Probably the educational levels. When I was in the 9th grade, my Bio teacher started to teach evolution and the class literally boo'd her (back in Georgia). I did not know there was a difference until relatively recently when I did actual research.
