You need to have it exterminated. Vacuuming won't help - they lay eggs, and in a few weeks, they will hatch and you will have the same problem. Get it done quickly - they will spread and get on the furniture and everywhere. The exterminator will use something that is not harmful to humans, I had to have this done years ago - and I had a baby in the house. The fleas got so bad they were biting our ankles!!

Yes.
Have the kitties dipped and treated with some flea-repelling product such as Advantix or Revolution. Then close them in a flea-free room while you treat the rest of the house: The bathroom is usually good.
Wash the curtains and bedding. And while you're doing that, sprinkle borax on the furniture and carpet, and let that sit about 20 minutes before you vacuum it up. Don't forget to move stuff. Keep vacuuming every day for about 2 weeks to make sure you get the flea eggs and the newly-hatched fleas.
After that, you should be clear of fleas. There is one thing, though: You might want to get a professional to treat the yard for fleas too, if the kitties go outside.
Good luck!

Use the powder overnight, with the bedroom doors closed, as you'd planned; it'll be safe. Vacuum first thing the next morning, but go over the carpet with the vac a number of times, moving the vac head slowly - so there's time allowed for the suction to pick up the flea powder. Don't you just hate having something like this happen - and don't you hate to look down and there's a flea on your leg? Good luck.

Get a good flea spray and spray a cotton ball - saturating it. Then pull the cotton ball apart with your fingers (in at least 3 or 4 pieces). Toss the pieces onto the carpet. Vacuum them up into the sweeper, then vacuum all rugs. (The sprayed cotton balls will kill any live fleas that are sucked into the vacuum so they don't re-emerge.
Then, launder anything with fabric that the cat sleeps on (in hot, soapy water) to kill fleas that might be in the bedding.
Use the spray to spray overstuffed couches and furniture.
If the cat goes outside, he may have picked them up from the yard... The yard should be checked and treated if necessary.
For the cat, there are some very effective once-a-month flea treatments that will minimize future infestations. Check with your vet for the proper product and dosage.

get some zodiac flea and tick powder for carpets, sprinkle it around in the evening before bed, if you can take a push broom or other broom and gently work it into the carpet, a few strokes will move the fibers and allow it to penetrate.in, vacuum very well in the morning, toss the bag. Then re do it about a week later, it has a residual effect and should take care of the fleas in the carpet.

You need to kill the eggs to! I would call an exterminator they will be able to handle this with your cousin in the house I am sure they have had this problem before. Do something soon though because fleas multiply very fast. Just walk across the carpet in white sox and you will see just how bad they are, and you dont need your cousin full of flea bites.

Get a strong flea spray instead and do one room at a time. When the spray dries and the time the directions say to let pass has passed vacuum the room and throw out the bag into the outside garbage. Also treat the cats. Use Frontline or Advantage. Wash their bedding and anything they sleep on.

First, the cats should be treated; your aunt should consult her veterinarian about that part. Next, vacuum the carpet and all upholstered furniture, and discard the bag OUTDOORS immediately. Then use a good flea spray that can be sprayed directly on the carpet. I had good luck with a brand called Zodiac Advanced Indoor insect spray. It kills both adult fleas and eggs, which is why I chose it.
Good luck!
