i don't know what sex to choose, male or female? which one would be easier to look after? people have told me male kittens spray everywhere to mark there territory and females don't? other than that what else would be a better advantage of picking one sex over the other?

It just depends on the persnality of the kitten. Males and females are both affectionate. The Males will spray - so you need to get them fixed at 6 months. Any indoor cat should be fixed anyway.

Neutering (male) is usually cheaper than spaying (female) and it's a lot less complicated surgery. That's one reason I would choose a male over a female. If you get him neutered at an early age (6 months is the youngest) he's less likely to spray. But if you wait until he starts spraying, even if he gets neutered he may still spray.

I have three female and three male cats. One male is the biggest teddy bear sweetheart in the world. He will sit in your lap for hours and purr. However, I also have a female that will do the same thing, . . . when she's in the mood. The other two females and one male are pretty aloof and come around when they want attention (when they are in what I call "purr purr mode"). The other male is a kitten and it's difficult to determine his personality while he's still in "kitten play mode."

In my overall experience, males tend to be more laid back and cuddly. Females are generally more active and will come to you when they want attention and my give you the elbow when they don't. However, every cat has it's own personality and you may be surprised.

Don't base your decision solely on sex. See how the kittens play and if they look healthy.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I think if you get the kittens spayed or neutered early enough (like at 6 months) you shouldnt have to worry about the male kitten spraying or the female kitten going into heat. Then it would depend on what you wanted either a boy kitten or a girl. Ive had both and they are both adorable. I think it more depends on how they are raised and treated than what sex they are. Right now I have 2 lil sisters who are both so sweet and loving. Ive also have lil boy kittens who were just as sweet. So I think that as long as you get the kittens spayed and or neutered right away the sex of the kitten doesnt matter. Both sexes go through the "kitten crazies" where they get into everything. So pick the cutest one to you and enjoy him or her!

Well, personally, I like females more. That is just my personal preference, but it doesn't matter. If you get your kitten spayed at 6 months of age, he will not spray urine everywhere. If you don't, that could be a problem. If you have a name you would like to name your kitten and it is a female name, then get a female if you really want to go with that name. I have four cats and have noticed that males tend to be more loving, but they can stalk around and meow alot, but so can females. Females tend to get in a bad mood sometimes when you are too rough with them or they are feeling frisky. It all depends, both genders are great cats!

Which ever kitten you get please neuter it. A neutered male does not mark it's territory. Males are cheaper to neuter, but that is about the only advantage.
The best way to pick a kitten is find one with the personality you like. The sex of the animal should not matter.

Males don't start marking territory until about 6 months of age. And never will mark if you neuter them before they start.

Having raised a number of kittens, I can't say I've noticed that much difference in how difficult the males and females are to take care of.

I have had both male and female cats and I have developed an indescribably affection for male kittens. They are much less stuck up and way more affectionate. This is only in my experience though and from what I've heard from friends with cats. I've had my male kitty for about 5 years now and he is like my child, he is half feral cat and when he's around me, he acts like a house cat. I have never had a bond like this with a female cat. And as far as spraying...my cat never sprayed.

Female cats can also spray but not as often...

Male cats will be more affectionate. T prevent the spraying have a male neutered at 6 months.

It all depends on which kind of personality you like in cats. True, male cats to tend to spray more, the two male cats I have (also one female) have never had an incedent with it. Get which ever you decide spayed/neutered asap.

Male cats tend to have more playful personalities than the females. The Females tend to be lazy and shy sometimes, but they also tend show more affection.

GOOD LUCK!
