Beatnik: Why? Their choice was to pull the trigger. That was never denied. It wouldn't be their choice whether the attack was successful anyway so why couldn't God intervene?

Those who want to kill don't choose to kill, they choose to TRY to kill. They can be unsuccessful and still have free will.

I think, as a spiritual Christian anyways, (vs a "religous" one) that GOD CAN do both. Your free will may allow you to pull the trigger, but if GOD has a plan for whomever you are aiming at, or knows in your heart that you do not really wish to kill someone, he HAS the power to: cause a misfire, a freak distraction, random power failure, even possession of our hand just enough to change the trejectory, ect... this is a confusing question to say the least. If HE were to allow you to randomly kill just anyone, HE would not be the all mighty being that i am convinced that HE is. Also remember that GOD has leigons of angels at his instant beck and call, so the protected will stay just that... protected. Your own free will can not over rule the will of God. It is a very good question indeed.

Maybe God does stop some bullets from hitting their targets. Whether He does or doesn't, the decision He chooses is the right one because He sees all ends and knows what effects it will have.

Why can't Atheist?

Stalin's role in the fortunes of the Russian Orthodox Church is complex. Continuous persecution in the 1930s resulted in its near-extinction: by 1939, active parishes numbered in the low hundreds (down from 54,000 in 1917), many churches had been leveled, and tens of thousands of priests, monks and nuns were persecuted and killed. Over 100,000 were shot during the purges of 1937-38.

Then he would be taking away the free will of those who would rather kill.

God 'IS" the target, your bullets of free will are shooting blanks!

God does not exist to serve us. We exist to know, love and serve him.
