will the government give us back all the extra taxes we paid to combat it. Like Petrol tax increases, flight surcharges etc.
And where is all the revenue gained from these "stealth" taxes going? Does is go on cheaper more convenient, safer public transport? I can probably answer this myself when I stop crying with laughter..................

Up until a few years ago, we here in the States were paying a stealth tax to fund the Spanish-American War - back when the most advanced vehicle in the Army was a horse (1898). We received a VERY small rebate. And we're the country known for despising taxes.

I wouldn't hold by breath...the most you'll likely get is a heart-felt, "Sorry, my bad."

It's not really a case of proving that GW wasn't a problem as we already have the proof that it is a problem. We haven't directly seen many effects because we're a long way from the worst affected areas and have the resources and finances to mitigate many of the effects. If you were in Africa or Asia for example the evidence would be irrefutable because the effects are so obvious.

I don't have figures for how much the government has taken in green taxes but the figure is sure to run into the billions. I was told by a very reliable and credible source that about a quarter of the money raised by the government is spent on green issues, the remainder subsidises other government expenditure.

So yes, we're being ripped off by the govenment (nothing new there). However, it's not that the govenment 'invented' global warming as an excuse to tax us, more that they seized on the opportunity - GW having been a scientific issue for over 100 years now.
