We had goths when I was younger, all I know about emos is that they dress in dark clothes, wear lots of makeup, some cut themselves and make suicide pacts. Write depressing poetry. Ah you see, I'm stereotyping already! So would someone please put me straight....

Ok let me be the one to help you!! My sister is a total emo and gets really pissed off when people make the comparison between them and goths! Emo's are a lot more colourful than goth's, yes they wear a lot of black but they also team it with bright colours. They don't wear so much make-up as the goths but yes most of them talk about sliting their wrists and commiting suicide. I actually quite like them although not the real hard-core one's and no I'm not being biased in saying I like them because of my sister!

Emo was derived by an emotional punk type rock. It describes a type of dress code for late 80's early 90's depression type punk rock. Emo can describe the fashion of clothing or it can describe a depressed person.

took me awhile to figure that one out too, its those kids that love to be depressed, i think some of them even cut themselves, emo is short for emotional, they are big on wishing they were dead though the act of actual suicide is something im not sure they will usually go through with. I think its all about being sad and upset all the time, you know emotional down and sad all the time.

Emo is goth lite. It's a little bit less dramatic on the death think and way more dramatic on the angst/emotional side and the music is wimpy. Emo is short for 'emotional', so it's a 'faggy' goth.

Emo is something that has developed through today, so called "rock music" It started of as a type of music, such as Funeral for a friend or My Chemical Romance. It is a term people would use to be offensive, as emos will usually deny it. They usually have slash marks on their wrists.
BEWARE: EMOS ARE STEALING ALL OUR GOOD BANDS...EVEN METALLICA HAVE BEEN TURNED EMO!!

You don't have to be Gothic/punk to be emo. Emo just means emotional. Kids that are never happy and act like their whole life is a tragedy or drama are emo. Kids who are always crying, always upset etc..,
