The car's engine is 200 times as powerful, yet the lawn mover is much louder. It seems that a more powerful engine should be louder, right ?

Mufflers on car's usually have baffling and padding in which the sound levels are lowered. On small engines, especially one's on push mowers, they only have 1 or 2 baffles, and no amount of padding. The ONLY reason most manufacturers put a muffler on a small engine is A. to SLIGHTLY lower the sound output, and B. as a spark arrestor for federal guidelines. If you think that engine's loud now, try pulling the muffler off!

In addition to what everyone else has said, a car engine is more massive than your lawn mower, so it would not vibrate as much to begin with. And the car engine is mounted with anti-vibration mounts.

Contrary to what one guy said, not all lawn mowers are two cycle engines; most run on regular gasoline. But, as everyone else noted, lawn mowers do not have mufflers.

What u r suggestion is true, but in a regular auto engine there are things u can use 2 quiet the engine IE; a muffler and cat converter, among other aftermarket things.
Whereas lawn mowers are not regulated to have those things.

An automobile (usually) uses a four-cycle engine with one power stroke per every four piston strokes better controlling the escape of combusted gases than a two-stroke lawnmower engine which is a compromise between power and exhaust requirements. An automobile engine although larger is subject to stricter anti-noise laws almost forcing a much better muffler design. However, a 'better-tuned' exhaust system actually increases performance and mileage while reducing noise.

The biggest reason is because a car has a muffler that prevent much of the combustion noise form leaving while a small engine often has little if any noise impedance. If you remove the muffler from a car you will know right away that a car engine is capable of producing much more noise.

you can notice that when the car silencer is damaged and then you will hear the noise of the car engine

Also, the car has a hood that covers the engine. Lawn mowers don't.
