When I was 18, I had a biopsy and I went to work that afternoon. It wasnt really painful.
I work with a lady who had a negative breast biopsy 2 weeks ago and she took off 8 days and still is not back.
I think she is milking the system. What do you think?

I'm a guy and have breast cancer (yes men get it to) and I took only the day of the drs appointment off (actually it was undiagnosed till I saw my dr then he referred me to another one for a biopsy which took about 40 minutes (and for the rest of the day I was bleeding like a stuck pig haha). But I was back to work the next day (even with the news and the later news that it had already spread to my bones and lymph nodes). I'm still working after chemo, radiation and surgery 23 months later at the time I was diagnosed it was a 7.5 inch tumor later radiation shrunk it to 4 inches then they yanked it out). Oh and by the way I know how you women feel after a mommogram because they did one on me and I didn't have any boobs to begin with (just the tumor was pretty much what they flattened in that machine haha). Boy was that a rough experience!!

I have had both fine needle biopsy and solid core biopsy done.

With the fine needle biopsy, it was done in the morning and I went to work that afternoon.

The solid core biopsy was done in the afternoon, but I was well enough to go out to dinner that night and was back at work the next day.

Is it possible she has had a lumpectomy with the mass removed for biopsy? The biopsy results of her lumpectomy may have diagnosed it as benign (non-cancerous) but this is still surgery that requires recovery and time off untill the wound has healed enough that there is no danger of infection.

You don't need to take any time off work for breast biopsies these days. They don't have to give you a general anaesthetic to do it now, just a quick jab of local and then they use one of their magic hedgehog boxes and zap it around your boob at different angles ( hedgehog box being the technical term cos I don't know what the other name for them is). Yes I do know what I am talking about cos I had the same thing done to me and my biopsy was not negative and I had a radical mastectomy 6 years ago! If I remember correctly my friend and I left the hospital and then went to Morrison's shopping and had a fit of the giggles cos I hadn't bothered to put my bra back on and when I got my purse out at the checkout my bra was attached to it! lol:-D

she shouldn't miss 8 days simply due to a biopsy, but something else may have been done at the same time, or she may be ill. Until she comes back in,with an adequate explanation, give her the benefit of the doubt.

Biopsies are usually done on an outpatient basis (discharged home the same day) with little to no post-op restrictions. If it's no a strenuous job with heavy lifting, she should be back. She's either milkin it or she may have had more done than a biopsy...
