my 55 yr old mother with bad lungs and asthma had gall stone surgery to remove the stones. it was like a two hour op. During the surgery they said her heart stopped. Is this common? Is there going to be negative affects? I think they said they had to PAD it? what does that mean? about how long do u think it stopped for? they didnt say.

A heart stopping in surgery is sometimes done intentionally when bleeding needs to be controlled at a critical point in the surgery. I do not know if stopping the heart is intentional with gall stone surgery. The anesthesia is sometimes intended to keep the patient right at the point where the heart and lungs are just barely working, to keep bleeding under control. Its very easy for the heart to stop under these circumstances. If a patient's heart stops, there are always electric paddles on hand to restart the heart - usually within a few seconds after it stops. The paddles are used with gel pads that are usually attached to the chest before surgery - this allows for extremely rapid response if the heart stops. Your mom's heart was probably only stopped for a few seconds, unless there was difficulty restarting the heart. The amount of time the heart stopped should be in the medical report if your mom wants to ask for it.

Put a cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice in a cup of olive oil, shake it up, and drink the whole thing down. One of Dr. Christopher's old remedies. May need to be repeated. This will pass stones that are not too big to go through the bile duct. Chinese medicine would say there is dry heat in the Gall Bladder. Make sure you are getting PLENTY of water, at least half an ounce per pound of body weight each day. Acupuncture can resolve the underlying problem that caused the stones. It takes time.

it is not uncommon there should be no ill effects from this I have had 4 heart surgeries where I have been on a heart lung machine with my heart not beating for as long as 1 hour. They would have got her heart beating again in minutes. It may have been the anesthetic that caused it.
