I am planning on flying to Quito Ecuador from Iowa. I have access to the Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Chicago airports. Staying a week over the New Year. Dec 29th or 30th to Jan 3rd or 4th. When and where can I book the best price?

Actually, what you ready need to do is to do some searching form the internet. For me, I did it very often to get good deals. It seems like you are traveling at the year end which is a peak period. I guess you need to do your booking early.

If you need any other cheap deals, see if this website can help you.

I recommend using a web site like kayak.com that searches multiple other sites for you to get the best fares. Then you can decide which combination of schedule, routing and price works best for you. Right now it looks like the lowest price may be on Copa Panamanian from O'Hare and stops twice (Houston and Panama) but you might prefer to fly a US airline and only have to stop once which might mean starting in Minneapolis on Continental. Kayak will also show you some fare trends (it takes a little digging to find it sometimes) but right now for instance it will show you that fares seem to be declining on this route but have not been lower for months and if you leave on 12/29 you will get a lower fare tan on 12/30.

Check travel sites, and make sure you use the 'alternate airports' selection if it is available.

I usually use www.bestfares.com A lot of the fares are for the general public, but if you see a really good fare for members, the price of a year's membership is worth it.

And on the other travel websites, (orbitz, travelocity, etc.) use the "my dates are flexible" option to see if flying out on a certain date might make the fares cheaper. Usually the difference of a day can save you big time.

And book early, the cheapest seats are sold first.

Good luck!

Probably. Remember buddy passes are the last ones on the plane. Look to see how many flights there are from IAH to Quito daily and how full the flights are at this time. Most people have bought their tickets by now.

The further in advance you book, the better price you can get. This site lists great cheap travel websites: http://www.travelbargainsites.com One site compares all the airlines at once to find the best price for a flight.

American Airlines has some good deals and regular flights there. As Chicago is a hub of AA, you'll probably find the best prices and most options out of there.
