Pearl is a great album, but I would suggets that you get the set "Box of Pearls". It has 5 discs and is all her studio albums.

Hi Amber:
I've always loved Janis Joplin's music.
I think Pearl is the best. I have that on a record. I also have greatest hits and a three set CD's from Columbia/Legacy.
She is my favourite of all time.

All of her CD's are great. Janis Joplin was a goddess. Her best CD in my opinion was "Pearl", but I would really suggest you get "A box of Pearl's" if you get further into her. She really was brilliant. Also, try "Cheap thrills". She was younger when these songs came out, and they're pretty upbeat, whereareas, "Kozmic Blues" album(very good also) is more of a blues album."Pearl" is mixed. It has rock'n'roll, blues and even country-rock like "Me and Bobby McGee". Enjoy listening to one of the greatest blues mamas of all time.
Peace!

Start with "Cheap Thrills" by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Then pick up "I Got Dem Ol Kozmic Blues Again" and then "Pearl", which was her posthumous smash lp.
"Box Of Pearls" is pretty extensive and probably a good bet if the other 3 really whet your appetite, but it has a lot of studio outtakes as well, so it is not for the casual listener.

Cheap Thrills is one of my favourites. You haven`t heard "Summertime" until you`ve heard Janis sing it!
