Joseph was obviously not a bright bloke. Even in the stone age you should know that you don't get pregnant by some God. Kind of sick of God to do that actually.

He had an angel visit him in his dream first, remember? The angel told him Mary was pregnant and that she'd have a son and he is to call him Jesus. Then after that dream Mary told him what the angel Gabriel had said to her and her story matched his dream. Though it does say in the bible (can't remember where) that Joseph was a little doubtful, but knew that if he said anything then Mary and the baby would be stoned to death, so he planned on divorcing her after the baby was born. He changed his mind obviously.

Perhaps Joseph had an immaculate perception of Mary!

It is called trust and honesty between a couple. The Angel probably helped to make it clear as well.

Joseph was probably only too pleased to bring up this special child as his own.

--SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO convince him--- the angel DID--- IF you care to even try to believe that angels were used as bonifide messengers OR is that too moral for you to think about?

(Matthew 1:19-21) “19 However, Joseph her husband, because he was righteous and did not want to make her a public spectacle, intended to divorce her secretly. 20 But after he had thought these things over, look! Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a dream, saying: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife home, for that which has been begotten in her is by HOLY SPIRIT (not a person , but God's active force that could produce miracles, YOU KNOW LIKE modern so-called miracles of electricity, x-rays etc. from the feeble human genre, but ENORMOUSLY GREATER--MY COMMENT). 21 She will give birth to a son, and you must call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.””

--NO THERE wasn't the garbage you sickly conjured up through a perverted view of God you may have!

ask this to a preist and he`d label you a heathen!

the fact is
A: its impossible to prove the nonsence in the bible.
b: its a bit obvious mary, if she did exist, was screwing around and that josephs "dream" was a reaction of a hangover or opium.

He was actually planning to divorce her. But, an angel of the Lord spoke to him. Definitely shows what kind of man he was... even the divorce was to be in quiet so as not to disgrace her. He must have truly loved her and cared for her.

Matthew 1:18-20
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

OK here's my theory......Mary was having an affair with a guy called Gabriel, and while Joseph was out in his workshop banging in nails, Gabriel was indoors secretly banging Mary. When she fell pregnant she had to come up with a plausible story to avoid bringing disgrace and a thorough stoning to death. So she and Gabriel were smoking a spliff one night and came up with a fantastic story that Gabriel was an angel who had come to her in a dream and told her she was to give birth to the Son of God, which was fortold in the Bible anyway, so nobody would have been surprised. So all three in this little triangle retained their respect and honour.

I'm waiting for someone to say

"it's in the Bible and therefore it's true cos it's in the scriptures"

That seems to be the standard argument from the religious community on here.

Joseph thought the same thing until an Angel appeared unto him and told him that thing his wife conceived was Holy and was from God. Then he accepted the fact.

I think it shows that the people of their time had enough knowledge of the world that they knew how a baby should be made, and Joseph knew he didn't make it. To take Mary as his wife after proof of her adultery would have made him a fool and a joke amongst his people, and this is why he considered divorcing her. It took a revelation from God to change his mind. It's compelling evidence in human terms.
